Lemme guess, you're one of those two.

yes why won't microsoft hire me whyyyyy

But what I mean is it's just IRRESPONSIBLE to have a job like that and not get the dang date right in the software, because that's the kind of thing you'd have to do in SCHOOL.

I seriously beg to differ. I've never used the zune app but itunes is frustrating and slow. I'd avoid it like the plague if I didn't happen to have an ipod, and am thusly a SLAVE to apple. But everything about the interface is slow and clunky and being selective about what music you want on your ipod is counter intuitive and the library system is retarded sometimes.
Considering Apple is all about multi-tasking, it's surprising that you can only do ONE thing at a time with iTunes.  I hate having to go back and forth between pages to compare applications because it's slow as hell.  If they would just set it up like a browser, finding stuff I want would be far simpler.

Hell if they were smart enough to get the clock/calender for the Windows os itself to take Leap year into account then its not to unreasonable they should have taken it into account on the Zune.

Yeah, it makes it even worse that way.

yeah I know I was giving the old people explanation before but yeah if they've got a perfectly good clock already they should have put that thing all up in the Zune (the clock interface/class/MODULE/whatever it's called)

or that should at least be on their Microsoft checklist

Yeah, it makes it even worse that way.

Also apparently there was a leap-year condition in the firmware code, it was just written badly.

One funny thing is....there us is no "Date" display there is only a Clock. So not only is a buggy program. but it is a pointless unused buggy program.

For anyone who's interested in this and has a bit of an understanding of programming, here's the source code for the zune bug apparently:

I understand programming enough to be ABLE to look through that and find the problem but I am really tired and am about to be in a car for 8 hours so, anyone want to tell me what went wrong in it?

I have 60gb of music but in all honesty I listen to maybe 3 albums and I never watch movies or whatever random shit they add to mp3 players to drive up the cost.  I liked the Zune because it had a radio tuner (don't know if the touch has that) but I'll probably end up buying the 8gb model simply because 10,000+ songs is ridiculous and I can't imagine anyone actually listening to any of it!

EDIT: Eh... 8gb ipod touch 2nd generation is 229$ and 16gb 1st generation is 219$...

2nd generation has external speakers and you have to download some sort of update to play games on 1st generation...

...do I really need external speakers?  Part of me wants to say yes but I'm pretty sure I have more than 8gb worth of music I actively listen to.

Of course, I could just swap out music depending on my mood but I'm such a lazy bastard that I hate going to my computer every time I want to listen to something different...

...

OH MY GOD CHOICES
my 80GB Zune has 11,000 songs on it (I have over 20,000 on my computer) and I listen to a lot of them but yeah, not all.

So I somehow broke the screen on my Zune (I don't even know how this worked I just pulled it out of my coat pocket and suddenly it was CRACKED) so I'm shopping for a new player.  I find myself working more often and jonesing to watch movies but I found an alternative to the ipod touch which is 60$ less than the 8gb model.  It's the Samsung - P2 8GB MP3 and Video Player.

So far, features it has over iPod touch:
-Supports WMA and WMA DRM files as well as mp3; no stupid fucking AAC shit
-Supports Xvid (fuck yes), AVI, MPEG4, AVC, Divx, WMV
-FM Radio tuner (big plus why doesn't ipod have this??)
-The screen is larger
-Battery lasts longer

The features I'll be giving up are internet (if I'm by a wifi connection I can access I'll be using a laptop, not a mp3 player) and games (I have a DS and PSP for a reason) as well as external speakers.

Since it uses a generic flash drive I can always replace it with something larger but in all honesty if I trim through my 20,000 something songs I could probably find 10 albums I actually listen to then stick a bunch of episodes of Dexter's Lab on it.

EDIT: Really, I'm in it for the screen size and fm tuner.  It amazes me that so few mp3 players contain radio tuners and large scerens.  I'm sacrificing storage space for a decent screen which is fine with me.

The only time I did was when I got a record player for my birthday this (well...last now) year that also had a radio in it, so I thought "hey, I never ever listen to the radio, let's see what it is like" and then realized it was nothing but country music and some lady talking about how jesus will help us with the temptations in our life, such as her craving for chocolate covered peanuts.

So yeah why would you want fm radio?

the car when i cant listen to the ipod because driving with headphones on seems a little distracted? and when i'm not driving i dont listen to the radio anyway.

because other than that zero. unless it's online. in which case duh.

seriously dude do you listen to the radio outside of the car or when your dj buddy says "hey im gonna beont he radio listen in" and even then most are online and the ipod has a wifi so that can load that? i listen to npr podcasts but there's a whole lot of garbage on it too, basically down with traditional radio. its a really dumb feature that would make it slightly more expensive, take up a bit more room and battery life, and I'm surprised marcus thinks apple would ever include it let alone should.

if he wants it mazel tov but I'm surprised this is a SELLING POINT to him, as it's not even something on every discman or portable cassette player, let alone a wifi enabled device. it seems really defeating to have a device that can play 1. your music 2. any internet radio 3. pandora/last fm, and then be like BUT DOES IT GET FM SIGNALS???

also just addressing the other things, WMA is a kind of shitty format anyways and doesn't itunes convert them to mp3 if you move it (I don't know as WMA really), videos kill the battery life of any of these anyways so I'm not sure how excited I could be about Xvid or something when XVid is used for longer files anyways, and while both a larger screen and battery life are good, I'm not sure that's negated by, you know, WIRELESS INTERNET (and using that larger screen has to hit the battery life). I spent over four hours in a doctor's office today and I couldn't just listen to music because they kept coming in to ask questions so I logged on the wireless and looked at shit. it was good! I never expected it to be so awesome but it really is a good way to not be bored. it also saves time since you can email, AIM, and if you just jailbreak it even make PHONECALLS with the ipod touch and I've already used it to find places, including said doctor's office directions, so yeah this more than makes up for LACK OF FM TUNER which I can't imagine anyone actually wanting other than WEIRD ASS MARCUS.

also lol if i'm by a wi fi im lugging a laptop! we're at starbucks, good thing i brought my powerbook along.

wifis are fucking EVERYWHERE in any city dude. doesn't every mcdonalds have one now?

I checked because it rang a bell, there's a free public radio app as well.

1. there are good talk show radios, news, and sportscasts that i listen to

2. there's no cable where i work and nothing when i'm on watch (for you non military types this is where we stand around twiddling our thumbs and making sure no terrorists infiltrate our waters and sneak on board the ship because this is what terrorists do)

3.  outside of mcdonalds and starbucks i can't think of any place with public wifi and i don't even shop at micky-dee or assbucks.  you usually have to pay some ridiculous 20$ fee for 2 hours like at the airport.

4.  i jog a lot and when i'm sick of one of my albums i like to listen to the radio while i jog; news and shit where i couldn't ordinarily acquire news because there isn't a satellite signal beaming wifi into my mp3 player.

5.  i don't aim, i check my email maybe once a week, i have no one to call except mom so all the extra features for an extra 60$ + 20$ tax isn't worth it.

maybe i'm old fashioned for actually liking public radio but i didn't think there was anyone in the world who didn't tune in to classic jazz or slow rock while driving the car.  i can't possibly fathom being on the road for more than 5 minutes without listening to music.

i think it's because most people either have that music on their ipod or, like me, don't get any stations that play anything like that

What? What kind of stations do you get?  Every American county I've been in gets the basics like smooth jazz, classic rock, generic rap, alternative whatever, and c-c-country.

1. I kind of want to pick this apart but I'll just say NAH there's maybe two hours of good radio on every day and most of it is on NPR's This American Life so your definition of good probably sucks...this is a post.

2. the military has no wireless network? and this only helps confuse the matter because don't you frequently GO AROUND THE WORLD, how would an fm tuner that changes stations when you cross a state line work in IRAQ? wouldn't you end up listening to...persian radio...the worst of all radio?

3. universities, hospitals, airports (diggity's imed from airports and besides why's this a point anyways you'd have your laptop which should provide non internet shit to do anyways if it's a significant trip), houses in almost any suburb, lots of fast food places. there are three wireless networks in my culdesac alone. where do you live man, I couldn't hit a city block in Raleigh without finding a wireless connection.

4. you've got to be kidding. you're getting an MP3 player that you will get bored of when you're jogging. most albums are about an hour long dude you're telling me you're just gonna jog through twenty albums or something and get bored of them and want to listen to some idiot who doesn't know math stammer about baseball players instead?

5. you do use the internet a lot though! all I did at the office was browse GW.

I basically don't understand how you think this is a selling point for anyone. I expect apple will never add one of these dude; they would have done it already if they were going to! lets not forget there are all sorts of third party accessories and a first party accessory for the ipod that does this for the few people that do want it! I just don't get why you're buying a higher end mp3 player like the touch, the zune, or whatever this samsung thing is instead of a walkman or some just mp3 player because you want to watch fucking DEXTER'S LAB for the two episodes the battery life will last.

I just do not get why you would spend hundreds of dollars on a MP3 player and then gripe about the fact you're supposed to play your MP3s on it and not listen to DJ Kobe's JPop Extravagazasama on G105.5. if you're the kind of person who listens to music and gets sick of your albums that you put on there as you're listening to them, maybe spending 200+ dollars on an mp3 player is a bad idea?
