Ignore the black borders and the pink underlining of Seeth. Obviously won't be in full version. This is still somewhat of a wip, the color of the sword Seeth uses is pink for example.

All decent games will have something stripped from them, its the way of the rm2k/3 community.

This is exactly why the rpgmaker community never produces anything of merit.

It's pretty awful to encourage that sort of thing!

You're missing the point... I was merely stating a fact.  Honestly, encouraged or not, it will always happen.  No use trying to change that was my point.

Besides... it's Rpgmaker... it's supposed to be for fun.  Not everyone is trying to win an award.

Halle-fucking-lujah! Finally someone with half the brain that's not used trying to come off as elitist. We need more people who think like this, the first rule of RPGmaking is to pretty much not listen to Nightblade because then you're just going to spend more time on arguing pointlessly than working on the game.

People have always used my recources and edits and my remixes and not given me credit or any aknowledgment. (For past 5 or so years) I return the favor by doing the same. It's the circle of the life.  :)

Well some people play rpgs because they have deep storyline and character devolopment and couldn't care less about eye candy. People like you would never make it in D&D.

yeah okie. go PLAY some and then give that opinion.

I would suggest Final Fantasy Tactics for a start. That's probably the deepest game I've ever played.

If you're limited this arguement to rpgmaker, then go play The Way or Love and War.

Either way, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. RPGs are ALL about story and characters.

The point is, people put lots of time and work into making their own custom graphics (and music, etcetera) and it shouldn't be an instinct to STEAL STEAL STEAL just because it's there.

@ MArcus: thats some awsome work man! I want to see more! :shocking:

@ KOG: What changed? His gun? Still looks cool.

@Ratt: Rad statues, but I dont like those bridges, they just stick out too much. Try darkening the gradient on them a bit.

Ok and here is my vid for the finalized intro of Red Skies. SIGNIFIGANT CHANGES HERE!

NEW VIDEO

I basically went through and redid the whole intro from scratch based on the criticisms i had recieve here and from my main beta tester. COMMENTS PLEASE!

OLD VIDEO

I honestly think these two intros look like they were made by diff people. Constantly using rm2k3 is slowly improving my skills I hope.
What was wrong with the old one? I like it better than this..well...intro.

Well that is one of the reason I didn't get so far in D&D :fogetlaugh:

In this case I am with him only because Nackster use Shadar, which for me is an icon in rpg maker games. And yes I said that.

To design your own RPG, or adventure game, or puzzle game is what RPG maker is for, and the only reason it exists.

The fact that there is tile-set design, character development, structured criticism, flat-out hate criticism, storylines, game series, creation and stealing of resources, and every other positive and negative thing to debate about...is because there are communities of people like us who chose to make RPG maker and the making of games an art form.

The fact there are elitist people is because they have a stricter idea of what the "gaming art form" should be, and those who are in it all for fun are those people make games to show their version of the "gaming art form." No one is going to ever have the same view as to what a game should/shouldn't be.

Now back to the topic of Screenshots:

@ PaperGhost: Your dark chess pieces blend into your chessboard and it makes them hard to see. You should change the colors and make the chess pieces have a higher contrast to the board. Other then that, I bow down to your ability to code a chess game.

Aaaaa Marcus holy shit. I don't have any real constructive criticism or whatever but I really like the style you have going on!

Anyway here's something from the contest entry, I probably won't end up using this particular shot in the game because the angle would mean redoing some of the character sprites but I might try to include it if I have enough time near the end. The quality is kinda bad because I shrunk it a lot in MSPaint.

Rpgmaker is stolen so any argument aout stealing is nullified :) (I am speaking uninformed here)

@ PaperGhost: I'm finding it difficult to tell where the different heights are in your city, particularly behind the left tunnel. The flat colors of the terrain, to me, don't match the man-made stuff.

I agree with konix on this. Stop justifying theft with dumb arguments. It discourages people with actual talent from releasing anything, and gives the community a bad image.

Don't compare it to stealing from commercial games, that's mostly people stealing old and mostly well recognized resources from big games and big companies don't care for the most part. They still get paid after all. On the other hand you are stealing the effort of one or two people who don't have the time or resources to take legal action, they generally don't get paid, and eventually turn away from a community where they find bits and pieces from their work in horrible jrpgs about saving the world.

I personally don't mind people using my resources (though they SHOULD ask first), but I can still understand why someone would want to protect something that they've put thought, time, and effort into.

@Nightbade: Ummm wow... I actually didnt remember where I got the faceset from, I usually save all the resources I like into a mass resource folder. I will change it, Im sorry.

@Bandito: Why? Any reasons in particular?

@Corfaisus: No you weren't forgotten, my main beta tester is helping me with a lot of the systems so he is playing through it while I work on it. The actual beta hasnt been given out yet. I still have to roll out some bugs with the running system before its ready.

EDIT: Attention Whore I am.

this isn't even about just stealing original material. it's stupid even with rips.

i've seen this happen so many times in the screenshot topic. someone posts a screenshot with some obscure rip and like 3 or 4 people demand to know where it's from so they could insert it into their project as well. why do this? why have chunks of your game look completely identical to a bunch of other people's games?
This is what I was trying to explain earlier.  Some people don't care about that kind of thing.  I'm not saying that I don't care. (I've changed my project 7 times... just to keep it looking different from the people that jack the resources or make something identical to a screen)

I understand where you and Rpg are coming from... but not everyone takes it so seriously.

These are older screens... but they're better than none: (Considering how none has been posted in a little while)

Case and point... EVERYONE uses Rudra rips nowadays... they used to be quite obscure.

Hey I thought this was a screenshot thread, not a discussion of rips! Maybe we should separate the screenshot thread into two topics (one for discussion of screens and one for just screens) because I am hating seeing only 2 screenshots out of 40 replies.

Anyway the issue with the whole debate comes down to the scale of your game. This really applies most to RPGs since they are the longest games out of any genre and why they're so many rips. It's simply too much for the average game maker to make an RPG with unique graphics because of how many things you have to make. It's the main reason why many of them are never completed. This is why you should make shorter games or you can just rely on your MS paint skills and just try your best. I personally do not care as long as you don't steal from pixel artists who make their own resources for their own game.

Man how did this discussion even start. And when are all these games posted here going to come out!?

not gonna lie, I seriously cannot tell the difference between this and, say, legend of the philosopher's stone or pretty much any other rm game that uses these rips.
It's funny that you would compare it to Philosopher's Stone.  That game is a big compilation of everyone else's game...  I mean, a lot of the ideas or graphics came from a great game called Kindred Saga. (A demo was released years ago.)  A couple of the puzzles and/or battle animations came from Forgotten Origin, my own game. (That I'm gonna have to change again to avoid comments like yours.)  Don't get me wrong, Philosopher's Stone is great game. (I would know, I tested it.)  I'm just trying to make a point here, and you're not seeing it obviously...  Every new and great game will bring a new style of design to the table.   Look at Naufragar Crimson... after it came out, EVERYONE and their mother were using Star Ocean graphics.  The big rudra phase didn't really hit until Balmung Cycle came out... and that game is still fairly new.  My point is... if you want to keep everything to yourself, then don't release anything.  I understand how authors may not like it, I can't stand it. (Makes me cringe too)  But lets face facts... it's GOING to happen, people will always rip something off.

EDIT - King Tetiro, those screens are a couple of years old... but thanks for the comments anyway.  :)
