I got talking with a coworker about video games today and he was wondering what's happened to the Donkey Kong franchise. Neither of us were sure if we'd heard about any new platforming games, or any other genre for that matter, that were in development with any of the Donkey Kong characters. I was wondering if anyone here might know something or might have some speculations. I'm figuring Nintendo just isn't making one and Rare obviously can't.

Not that I know... Nintendo is too busy raping their characters and adds them to terrible spin-off games.

i think the last actual donkey kong platformer was donkey kong 64, but yea i think that franchise is pretty much dying aside from guest appearances

Donkey Kong Jenga, that's all I've heard anything about in the last several months. Doesn't really count all that much but that's ALL I've heard relating to Donkey Kong for quite a while.

it's actually a lot more fun than regular jenga if you like jenga then by all means buy it

There's been DS platformers where you swing around and shit. Originally on the GBA, I think. There's also that lame kart racing DK game for the Wii.

The platformers might be worth checking out. I'll see if they're what we're looking for.

Edit: Yeah, the game's a platformer but it doesn't really look that great.

Nah, it isn't great at all Ize. The platformer genre died back in early 2000 but saw a little revival this year (Braid and another one that I can't put the finger on). I doubt we'll see one for a while. At least not as long as Nintendo can bath in the money made from Wii Fit.

what no it didn't?

2d ones have mostly but they're still all over handhelds from what i can tell. 3d platformers are all over the place.

Yeah DKC2 was def. the best one. Diddy and Dixie made a great team, I hated Kiddy Kong.

DKC2 was the best but I think DKC3 was nearly as good, I really liked the level design in DKC3 even though Kiddy Kong wasn't as good as Diddy.

Maaaan, I think I'm going to replay all three of them, they are some of the best platformers I have played.

I never did beat DKC2 as a kid. It was years later when I went back to play some old snes games and realized I didn't have a clear save for it. DKC123 and Kirby Super Star where my favorite games as a kid.
