City and Colour Wiki

City and Colour Myspace

Alright, so I literally just learned about this today. Has anyone here heard of a band called Alexisonfire? I've heard of it, never listened to a song of theirs. But, this "band" is called City and Colour, and is the solo side project of the lead singer and guitarist of Alexisonfire, Dallas Green. The name corresponds to his name (City to Dallas, Colour to Green). Furthermore, it is an acoustic "group," where he is accompanied by varying musicians every once in a while.

To avoid babbling on about different things, I just have to say that after I started listening to his singing... I pretty much fell in love with it. This is some good music right here, and I haven't had a chance to listen to THAT much, but it is really well done. I believe he has a really good voice, and if you like acoustic music you should hopefully love this.

Here are a few youtube links to some songs:

The Girl

Waiting...

Sometimes (I Wish)

"Hello, I'm in Delaware"

Check those out and other songs if you like what you hear. Come back and post what you think!

I like Alexisonfire much better than just Dallas Green on his own. While I understand and appreciate the influence of Canadian acoustic rock on his work, including things like recording tracks with Gord Downie, I find that the songwriting falls short and ends up sounding like whiney, whitewashed emo.

I like his work in Alexisonfire so much more because he has a really soft voice which I find adds a great contrast and harmony to the rough-and-tumble phase-out sort of songs that they have (We Are the Sound comes to mind).

I listened to The Girl and didn't really like it. I'm not sure what's it trying to be because it doesn't really have anything which would hook me at all. He's just playing some fairly boring melody with the guitar and singing and it's not even catchy. To each his own I suppose.

I was once a big Alexisonfire fan (and by "once" I mean "like a year and a half ago") and I got into City and Colour  through that and I sort of fell out of love with them around the same time I became super disenchanted with that entire genre, but here's the thing with City and Colour:

Dallas Green has a fantastic voice. Really he does. The problem is all his songs are him bitching about nothing in particular besides "his troubles" with little reference to what they ARE. There's this one song where it's like "I should start drinking so I won't have to deal with my troubles" and it's just pretty lame really.
I'm also pretty sure he has songs about how miserable and lonely he is on the same album as the tribute to his girlfriend.

EDIT: Oh shit I forgot to check the date on the last post sorry about the bump.

those were two separate things, friend. you can call the first one a real slammer, but the other was more of an example of how you can make some pusy shit without having it blow, targetted at no one in particular. sure I could have used any number of songs for the same effect. it was some time ago, but if I remember correctly, that particular song was sitting right atop my playlist that morn. now I know I should have double posted, Lordy knows I usually do, but I reckon I was just feeling lazy that day.
