I thought last night's episode sucked unfortunately. We saw no repercussions to Chief at all (where was he this whole episode?), Boomer's personality shifted much too quickly, and I can't take any more Roslin/Adama scenes. There's only so much of the exact same scene that I can stand, and that particular scene has been far too overdone. I used to like them as a couple but now I dread every scene they're in together. I liked it when Laura was this powerful presence that was in direct contention with Bill and the power struggle that occurred between them constantly - now it's just her drugged up and him reading books to her and reminiscing about New Caprica and their log cabin. The problem is, we've seen them do this about half a dozen times already. BORING.

Just the fact that the show spent so much time on filler things aggravates me. We're so close to the end that they shouldn't be doing this. These last 2 episodes better be the best thing ever or else I'll be saddened by how much this show has fallen.

he did have some scenes in this one but they were cut for time. i think yeah definitely other scenes should have been the cuts but apparently we're getting the extended cuts of all these episodes on DVD meaning we get to see a lot more of the backstory for the mutiny etc on DVD so don't be too hard on WHERE WAS CHIEF and all that cos they were there, we just haven't seen them fuckers yet.

but yeah this episode was like the last 2 a big mess and adama is a joke he should have died a while ago.

I actually like how BSG shows everyday life in the fleet instead of being 24/7 fighting and killing. I also like the characters change during the show (faster or slower) instead staying the same throughout the series. For me the magic of BSG is that they actually show this everyday life and struggle of the characters instead of it being some thing that just happens, here have some more spacefighting.

As for Chief, why should every character have to be every episode? There are many characters and only limited time for them all. And I'm sure they haven't forgotten him.

Yeah I didn't really notice Chief's absense but you'd think he would've had SOME part (that was important enough to leave in the ep) considering he was the one who let Boomer go. The fact that Boomer escaped with Hera seems to be one of the final plot points of the series, setting up some sort of FINAL SHOWDOWN, and Chief sort of just DOES IT and no one is the wiser!!

If nothing else, I've liked the last few intros, this one included.

Also Verne, when BSG gets down to "daily life", it starts to show just how cheesy and overdramatic some of the characters are. Everyone has enough emotional baggage to sink the Titanic and it starts to show when shit isn't really happening.

Is he? From what I gathered from the episode week ago no one knew it was he who helped Boomer escape and he just holed up in his room after hearing Boomer stole Hera. And he's propably stayed there dwelling in self-guilt ever since.

no the deleted scenes put him in the brig and it's meant to be assumed since those got cut that he is in there.

But what would lead us to assume that? Nothing. The writers could have easily had one character mention that Chief was cooling off in the brig but no one said anything! You'd think that Helo would be there yelling at him, or that Adama or Saul would have mentioned that it was Chief's fault. Not even the Cylons among the crew made a comment about it. For such a big plot point this late in the show, it was ridiculous that it wasn't given more of a focus or character reactions.

Deleting scenes shouldn't be an excuse for the diminishing quality of the show. If they delete them they should at least allude to what was deleted so it doesn't come out of the blue later on. For example, the scene explaining why Adama gave Baltar and his cult weapons was deleted (Adama had to decide between posting Centurions on Galactica for security, and Baltar offered him a human alternative) but this was never made apparent. On the episode that aired it looked like Baltar simply asked for weapons and Adama gave them to him... It just seemed so random when it happened on the show but had it have been explained properly it would have made more sense.

ADAMA
I...I promised them hope.

ROSLIN/CYLON walks up to ADAMA, gun in hand. He doesn't look up, although we know he knows what's coming next

ADAMA
I...I promised them things would change!

ADAMA turns to look weakly up at ROSLIN/CYLON (hereby referred to as RO/ON as the Galactica's engines fail. STARBUCK weeps in the corner and we see a muzzle flash, the light bouncing off her face. The RO/ON walks away from ADAMA's body, towards STARBUCK.

STARBUCK
We thought we were safe. We thought...we thought we were fleet-footed enough to escape. We never knew that voting for Adama would have done this! Please *sobs* leave us alone. You were right! We were wrong! You can be our king, whatever you want, just let us live!

RO/ON raises her gun and fires. STARBUCK's scream echoes throughout the now dessicated hull of Galactica.

RO/ON
Hope and change...pah.

The RO/ON's face quickly turns into an old man's, before turning back.

RO/ON
I am no King...I am...simply obeying the market.

Welp.... next week is it, I guess it's actually a two hour (re: hour and thirty minutes minus ads)  episode next week, which is good since I don't see how the hell they could wrap it up otherwise. Should be a good one too. I enjoyed this last episode mostly, except gat damn I don't really like Roslin. the actress always seems to FORCE everything, the scene with her getting into the fountain was just lame. I really liked Baltar's parts though! I'm not sure what the point of showing their lives on Caprica was, but I kind of liked it.

Maybe they showed the Caprica parts to "promote" the new series. That's the vibe I got from it. And I agree, Baltar bits were awesome and Roslin bits sucked.

as far as how these episodes have been quiet and just kind of shuffling along, i'm all right with that. i kind of like the idea of the end being more like they can't be bothered with all this shit, it's been long and hard and most of them have given up trying - that's an original kind of ending for a tv. and it would probably have worked well if the characterisation wasn't so scattershot for the past 5 or so episodes, and if so much important stuff wasn't cut out.

i definitely don't feel any sense of urgency about the finale. there isn't much at stake, cos there isn't really anything much left to do. most of the characters have been dead of then feet for ages, no purpose. i don't mean that in a derogatory way either, it's just the way the show is choosing to take. i'm sure we'll get a big fight and some screaming next week but that just feels like going through the motions. adama saying "let's get to work" at the end of the episode didn't come across like that old intense presence he used to have. it's more about not wanting to just wait around to die, so why not.

there's a good story in here somewhere. it's just been obscured by terrible writing and poor focus.

the finale could still hit the right notes. it can't make the last couple of episodes better, those episodes have had self-contained problems with characters, plotting and focus. they've kind of stunk. but the finale could still hit the right notes, letting the series fade out on a measured, intelligent kind of conclusion. maybe a little bit of hope, but any kind of victory for anyone at this stage won't mean anything. they can't make it mean anything in 90 minutes, considering all that's been done so badly before.

Roslin getting into the fountain was the worst scene of BSG so far.

I liked the rest of the episode though.  Adama was pretty awesome throughout, and I'm glad to see more of Baltar.

Chief wanted to abandon Galactica like 3 episodes ago but in the last episode he was dragging Tory across the line to assist in Adama's rescue mission.

Though I guess this could be construed as feeling guilty about letting Boomer escape in the first place.

I LOVED IT.

Can't type much more at the moment since it's past 1 am here and I have to go to bed now, but that finale was great. It definetely had it all - tons of action, cylon on cylon fighting, awesome CGI, happiness, sadness, people getting killed, things being wrapped up, and so on. I'm very satisfied with how it all went down. (SO much better than Watchmen that I saw yesterday...)

it was as good as they could have ended all this dumb shit. some of the character moments were nice - it made me real happy to see helo, athena and their daughter happy. as for the rest, who cares.
