as far as how these episodes have been quiet and just kind of shuffling along, i'm all right with that. i kind of like the idea of the end being more like they can't be bothered with all this shit, it's been long and hard and most of them have given up trying - that's an original kind of ending for a tv. and it would probably have worked well if the characterisation wasn't so scattershot for the past 5 or so episodes, and if so much important stuff wasn't cut out.
i definitely don't feel any sense of urgency about the finale. there isn't much at stake, cos there isn't really anything much left to do. most of the characters have been dead of then feet for ages, no purpose. i don't mean that in a derogatory way either, it's just the way the show is choosing to take. i'm sure we'll get a big fight and some screaming next week but that just feels like going through the motions. adama saying "let's get to work" at the end of the episode didn't come across like that old intense presence he used to have. it's more about not wanting to just wait around to die, so why not.
there's a good story in here somewhere. it's just been obscured by terrible writing and poor focus.
the finale could still hit the right notes. it can't make the last couple of episodes better, those episodes have had self-contained problems with characters, plotting and focus. they've kind of stunk. but the finale could still hit the right notes, letting the series fade out on a measured, intelligent kind of conclusion. maybe a little bit of hope, but any kind of victory for anyone at this stage won't mean anything. they can't make it mean anything in 90 minutes, considering all that's been done so badly before.
