it costs almost twice as much to buy comics now then it did this time last year :( This means I can only afford 1 or 2 comics a month :0 :O
I got reduced hours at work because of the recession, which means I've effectively lost two months wages per year, plus even though we're beating our targets there is no chance of a bonus or anything.
My wages mean I get £30 more than living/transport costs per month, so all the entertainment I can buy is 1-2 comics and a weekly cup of tea/biscuit from the SU cafe. Which is really gay when your buds can be out getting pissed/stoned whenever they want because they're middle-class fucks.

f*ck the recession, i can't buy comics anymore :(:!!!

We had these discount coupons to a swimming place at work and well.. they withdrew them now :(
Guess I'm pretty lucky though, since lots of my friends have lost their jobs thanks to this.

I'm just saying if I put my money in a US bank when I start working again and that shit collapses there is going to be some hell to pay. I will devote my life to hunting the fuckers down that started this shit.

I used to think this whole recession thing was just people shitting themselves for nothing. As time goes on though I think it's getting a hell of a lot more serious and it's affecting people you wouldn't think it would affect.

I think a lot of it is the war. Our government is just being so incredibly irresponsible with OUR cash and hasn't listened to logic and the will of the citizens. Why the hell do we still need to be imperialist dickfucks and go thousands of miles across the planet (wasting our precious oil) to try and make everyone else just like us? I mean shit. All we need to be concerned with is our own damn problems.

I really hope Obama can knock some sense into Congress and the rest of our shitty government. I'm 17 and I've been trying to get a job for a year. I've applied at 30+ places and got a call about twice. I thought for some reason my applications just must have looked like shit until I realized that all my friends have the same problem. Only the lucky people are able to find work. I also personally know some people (also teenagers) who have been laid off because the places they worked for went out of business.

I've gotta save for college but I have literally no income, so I'm depending solely on my family right now for everything. The job I did have, I got fired from (long story, stupid reason), but even then it only paid $8.50 an hour and I worked an hour a day. I made $916 in the year that I worked there. My family isn't rich, so if I can't find work, things are gonna get very tough in the long run for me.

Then make sure your bank is FDIC insured.  That way if the bank collapses, you're insured for up to at least $100,000.

What. Isn't all money federally insured?

Heh. According to my econ buddies we're technically not in recession yet. We haven't hit 2 consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth, or something. Should I slap them in the back of the head?

To a certain amount, $100k sounds about right,

Also, Juris, you should smack your buddies across the face and give them big noogies because "technically" our GDP hasn't risen, its just spending inflation with borrowed money. Also, I'm fairly certain that if we for whatever reason haven't hit two quarters of negative GDP growth no one can tell you that we are -not- in a recession.

a recession is technically something that can not be defined until after it is over. we are technically neither inside nor outside of a recession. once we hit the 2 quarter mark you still can't say whether we were in a recession, unless it's over. if it becomes a depression, then we were never in a recession, we were in a depression the whole time.

They're just dumb faggots trying to impress you with stupid trivia, the National Bureau of Economic Research declared a recession December first of last year and I don't think anyone would disagree with them. You probably shouldn't talk with "econ buddies" about things like this because undergrad economics students in the US are known to say some of the dumbest shit imaginable due to the fact that most economics departments in America are ideological brainwashing schools using statistical analysis of market trends to disguise itself as a social science.

iirc even if you take the stupid "two consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth" seriously they just announced the second consecutive quarter of negative GDP growth today

I get where you're coming from but when we hit a depression the whole country will be poor as hell so it won't matter!

Once I start making money good money and get a place to live, I'm going to stash an extra savings in a swiss bank account just incase shit hits the fan.

your best bet in an OH SHIT catastrophic situation would be physical holdings of tradable gold and silver coins with known purity and weight. If shit really hits the fan, just how are you going to get to your offshore bank account??

This recession's been opening up more and more jobs where I work due to the nature of our business.
A lot of businesses are starting to downsize and their phone services are being moved into empty positions within our building, we originally just did Directory Assistance but now we do a bunch of other crap like tech support, we had this synergy thing going on at some stage and now there are about 3-4 more different job types coming in available to about 10 people at each.

Also our government is going into the red to try to boost our economy at the moment, doing government handouts and investing in a bunch of building projects iirc.

swim to it

You're right though I might look into that its a pretty good idea! I'll get a safe and shit but I don't really like the idea of leaving a couple grand worth of gold and silver in my house while I'm gone even if I got it locked up!

Bank workers don't have access to your box, you need both the bank's key and your key to open them and the only other way to get into them would be to get a really heavy-duty drill to punch out the lock which takes about a half-hour or so for each one.

Ok man thanks for the information I'm going to remember that.

I'll drop you a few ducatz when the apocalypse starts so you can get yourself something pretty. I'm probably going to buy a firearm though, too. I'm really anti-gun but I'm still going to get one and keep it locked up to defend myself and my family if I have to.

I'm not going to risk all my shit and all my parent's shit when some worthless assholes decide to run around vandalizing and shooting up people. gotta be prepared...

yo yanks panic and rush and get all guns up when shit goes wrong. We queue. It was funny when Nothern Rock fucked up last year and all the media was saying there was PANIC and a MAD RUSH of people to get their savings, when in reality it was just a very long queue of very old people.

its not really about RUSHING TO GET GUNZ!

I live in the south everyone has guns. If shit got bad and I didn't have one to fight back, then I would be fucked. My dad has an armada hes was stocking up for 2000 because he actually thought something was going to happen. I'm not that paranoid but yeah...

I'm also probably going to need a permit and keep one in my car if I have to drive cross country to go to work. People over here do some fucked up shit kaworu.
