Lemme address all the age comments right her - I'm not a snot nosed 13 year old who is just discovering nihilism and turning emo or some bullshit like that - most of us have those stages, I did too, but I grew out of it at like 16.  I'm 22 now, in university, and it's not so much of "the universe is awful..... sigh *cuts self*" but rather "hey I've finally discovered what my tastes are so why not stop looking because every attempt at trying something new has never quite lived up to the hype."

It really doesn't matter if I'm precieved as tough shit or not, nor do I care if it's unique.  If I like something, I like it - It doesn't really matter how many other people enjoy it.

I've gone over it with several people over there and this is the best answer we've come up with as a collective group:

Listen to the word 'nigger'.  Forget the connotations, the meanings, just say it out loud and listen to the found your mouth makes.  Based on the sound alone, the word seems a little funny, a little THERE IS NO E IN RIDICULOUS, and it rolls off the tongue very well.  'nigger' (and 'faggot' too actually) has completely lost its meaning connecting it to anything derogatory over there and is more often used not as just a descriptor for any person.

ex: if you call somebody a nintendofag, they're a 'nintendo person' aka nintendo fanboy.  Or whatever.

The most creative use we've seen of it was 'backnigger' - referring to any background character or redshirt that simply stands behind the main action in a scene and does nothing.

This trend definately started with just "lol racism" jokes and was in effect long before I even went to .org, but over time the racism has just been stripped of the term in that particular community's lexicon.
