i haven't bought a cd in years, whats the point of having a useless piece of plastic if im gonna put it on my pc/mp3 player anyway.

because my car has no sort of ipod adapter and so i have to use an fm adapter which is a pain in the ass and gets static sometimes and so as long as i'm not on the interstate where changing cd's is harder i'd rather just pop in the cd

I can't tell if there's like exponentially more music on fileshare now or if it's just that I was searching for BGM all the time

I still think youtube has more free songs than Napster ever did though

If I was gonna buy music (I don't )I'd buy vinyl cause there's something way more satisfying about slipping that shit out of its sleeve and layin it down than fiddling with a nasty little plastic case

fuckin' right. not least because i listen to old shit which is mostly on vinyl anyway. also with vinyl you get actual sleeves rather than shitty booklets with one or two pictures, that really ticks me off. put some effort in guys!

Yeah, usually if it's an older album that I really give a shit about (or find really cheap at the flea market), I'll buy it on vinyl just for the better presentation.  Plus, it kind of makes me listen to a full album more than I would with a CD, because I get impatient waiting for my favorite songs so I skip past other ones and sometimes take a long time to ever really hear them.  With vinyl, it's harder to skip songs, so I just listen to the whole thing.

I haven't bought any CDs in ages, partly because I have no money and partly because the selection in all the local shops is pretty shit most of the time. I still buy them when I get a chance, though, since I really hate listening to music on my computer and just having a box of blank CDs honestly feels pretty impersonal and makes me less willing to spend time on an album than I regularly would. Maybe it's just the amount of stuff I download but I have a bad habit of just like skimming albums on the computer and then forgetting about them if they don't grab me, which is sad since all my favorite albums are ones I absolutely hated when I first listened to them. Also stuff like lyric sheets are cool and pretty much essential for any stuff with non-english words.

Also I kinda find it more fun to buy albums, I guess. Not in the sense of possessing something but there's a great sense of discovery you can get from looking through shitty 2nd-hand racks that I never really got from downloading, and there's also kind of a risk factor in buying stuff from bands you don't know at all that can be frustrating (whoops just bought a shitty live bootleg that sounds like it was recorded in a cabinet three miles away from the venue) but can also be pretty cool when you accidentally get one of those great overlooked albums you wouldn't have bothered with otherwise if you were just going by blog reviews or whatever.

yeah I really miss the experience of lyrics sheets from the albums that I had when I was a kid. you get so much more into the music when you know the words. I guess for a long time lyrics weren't really that important to me (explains why I was able to tolerate power metal I guess) but I'm starting to get more into that aspect of music and I really wish I knew the lyrics better to a lot of the music I have, but it is kind of impossible to find them sometimes heh because people are gay and transliterate the lyrics all stupidly and I cant figure out from the song or from the lyrics online what the word is to look up in the dictionary and it makes me really angry cause I know it is rumi and I know I have heard it a million times before but I'll give an example

figuring out a lyric such as:

andak andak jam'-e mastaan mi-resand (arguably one of the most famous lines in all persian poetry and looks like this: اندک اندک جمع مستان می رسند ) is much easier than figuring out something such as:

Man ghulam qamaram ghair qamar aich mago Pesh-e man joz sukhan shahd-o shakar hich magoo

which to me means nothing because I cant tell which letter they are representing with /gh/ and /ai/ and there is also the question of where the long a's fall as well which makes a huge difference even though it is from a pretty famous poem

of course figuring out english lyrics can also be a pain in the ass with singers such as Jello Biafra whose vocalizations are oftentimes incomprehensible when they really get going lol
