If there is any favorite music genre of mine, it would be Metal. I enjoy many metal bands such as:
Metallica(Favorite album: "Ride the Lightning" and "...and justice for all)
Iron Maiden("Powerslave")
Disturbed("Ten thousand fists")
Machine Head("Burn My Eyes")
Rise Against("The Sufferer & The Witness")
Slayer("Hell Awaits" and "Reign in Blood")
Killswitch Engage("Alive or Just Breathing" and As "Daylight Dies")
Protest the Hero("Fortress")

So yeah, those are my main favorite anyway. But the main question is that are any of you guys interusted in metal? Favorite bands? albums?

but to answer your question the only metal bands I really like still to this day are like.. opeth and blind guardian (the two bands that were my favorite when I was a metalhead) and the former mainly because of their non-metal music and the latter mostly for nostalgia. there are some 'drone' type or doom metal bands that I still like but its largely mood music and I mostly like it for the atmosphere and the folky aspect to a lot of the bands (such as agalloch) rather than the chugga chugga so yea

I used to be really into heavy metal (and some of gw's dumber people still think I am) and thought it was the best shit ever. Which for a lonely 15 year old... it most likely was! But I grew older, tastes changed and now I can barely listen to any of it.
the only metal I listen to semi-regularly now is Judas priest's first three albums, and I still occasionally enjoy the non-bruce maiden albums... yet curiously Bruce's solo stuff is prettymuch the only other metal I listen to.

I can't listen to music anymore unless it has vibe solos.

I personally like classic metal much more than modern, yeah quite a few of my favorites are modern but really though, bands like Iron Maiden blow them away. Modern Metal like Linkin Park(I belive they are metal) really fucking suck donkey shit due to the lack of talent and the fact that they are REALLY overplayed. Yeah some can say Metallica is overplayed, but they at least have talent(exept in st. anger, but even that album wasn't terrible).

Oh I know very well what metal is, its just that I got into it not too long ago so yeah you can kind of all me a "newbie" at metal, but I have listened to enough metal to know which is garbage or not but that is all out of personal opinion.

metal nerd: hold on, just got to post my contempt for linkin park on the message boards

everyone else: linkin park is still together? who even listens to them.

the answer is no one and even people who like linkin park i'm pretty sure it's nobody's favorite band. linkin park is the definition of harmless white noise. their music sucks but nobody cares because nobody really pays much attention to them.

Good job for recommending quite a few crappy bands that pretty much everyone knows anyways...

I've been into metal for a long time. I listen mostly to doom metal and some black metal bands. I never really got into death metal except for stuff like Edge of Sanity. I find most metalheads to be extremely annoying and most recent bands to be terrible. A lot of bands are getting so frickin' wanky for no reason it's insane. I also have my own doom metal band, some day GW will hear it!

Say what you will about Linkin Park. One Step Closer is a proper tune.

I used, like many, to be really into metal. Still really like Opeth and Devin Townsend related stuff, but as a general rule i'm less interested. Every now and then you've got to put Therion or something similar on and cheese the fuck out though, as with every genre.
