I like symphonic metal. Epica is great if you can get over the cheesy lyrics, and Apocalyptica rocks out on fucking cellos, they're pretty awesome.

what? in order for a concept of cheesy (see kitsch) to exist you have to have something with artistic merit and taste in the first place.

Somehow one way or another I have two Iron Maiden songs on my computer.


They're pretty good but I can't imagine listening to this kind of music ALL THE TIME one or two songs is enough.

It's a terrible idea for anyone to listen a single type of music all the time, it promotes a closed mind and just turns people into bastards when another genre of music is brought up... I think in the long run metal and rock is what I've listened to the most, but I've learnt to branch out alot into other genres. I couldn't imagine listening to metal, hip-hop, prog or anything ALL THE TIME anymore.

By the way I hate the well that's your opinion argument. I mean it's pretty dumb to vehemently defend cheesy music too but that's your opinion is on the same level as you're just jealous as far as arguments go. I'd actually respect that guy who talked about the chord progressions in Chinese democracy more than the guy who says well that's your opinion.
I would still think he's pretty dumb but at least he's trying.

It takes some courage to argue or defend ones opinion and it takes even more to ADMIT and try to look things from other people's/different perspective. That guy's criterion might have been elementary (the one who defended Chinese Democracy) but at least he is actually giving other people chance to know WHY he thinks it is good, to let other people see his justification.

Anybody who goes " welp well thats youro pinion" in the face of an argument is basically not willing to explain/defend his justification, yet alone to argue about it. This is baseless and is giving a very anti-intellectual, dumb image of the person and i don't think I'd want to discuss about music with that person ever again.

i mean why would i? all he/she does is just expressing PREFERENCES, not actually discussing about them. go namedrop somewhere else/get out of the music forum if you don't want to discuss about music.

This is p. true.  I guess I've just met quite a few people that listen ONLY to metal more than I have people who only listen to one other genre.
