another brit here
I've not taken a math class for 5 years and I could barely remember what BODMASS stood for!
I think the secret here is you don't need to ever look at math again once you've gone past compulsory education in the UK whereas I'm near certain at a US college math classes are required. I use basic math in everyday life e.g. adding, money, percentages and I'm not suprised I can barely remember any of this

use it or loose it  :fogetbackflip:

Also I got the question right only because I assumed it was a trick and -16 looked the most obvious answer...

Again, you don't need to know what "BODMASS" means to know that 1+2*3 is 7! Who the fuck gives a fuck about acronyms, especially when they're just to help you learn something. After you know what you need to know, you can forget the stupid acronym.

big thanx to dragonslayer for sig!

in retrospect im an ass but im shaming you into math...

i still trumped rami at maths. you will never triumph me in this department.

also as i kept saying it's not i DIDNT KNOW WHAT ORDER OF OPERATIONS WAS (i said i did ok, just couldnt remember the acronym), but it's just that a lot of people don't

edit: also the people who get it wrong in both topics are just retards. i am guessing by the amount of replies here that the majority of people replying didn't see it originally? (i didn't, obviously)

it depends on how you implement order of operations  :welp:

edit: fuck mathematical convention

I don't think you quite understand the repeated references to the Mnemonic mean!

I voted for 16, but now after reading through the article on Wikipedia I see that both answers would make sense, but -16 would be correct. I never learned the proper order of operations, I suppose. I just assumed that -4 was accepted as only that, not -1*4. Or something.
