That's scary. i drink alcohol almost everyday. And I am scared that it can cause cancer. Perhaps I should lessen my alcohol consumptions.

The sun causes cancer. The air causes cancer. Dust causes cancer. Doing something causes cancer. NOT DOING said something causes cancer. Noone is safe.

man whats up with this. yes, the sun does cause cancer. a lot of cancer. it is called skin cancer and it was a pretty huge issue for a while. it causes cancer because of us and how we nearly blew up the ozone layer that kept harmful UV radiation out.

also air and dust if they are full of asbestos cause cancer as well, which is why we remove it. smoking cigarettes causes cancer. it's rare to say not doing something will but if you're active and eat healthy you probably won't get it as your immune system will possibly fight it off.

how is any of this HEH...DUMB. all this makes sense! so many people say UGH EVERYTHING CAUSES CANCER but then they list things that...do cause cancer and are known to be serious risk factors. if you're going to cite frivolous studies maybe actually cite them.

and ding goes the bell. that's a good one. there was some burgeoning HMMM about aspartame although current consensus is that it's fine at the levels we use it.

I'm mainly poking fun at the STUDIES HAVE SHOWN crowd who refuse to make up their minds about what preventative measures they should take. The ones who treat a healthier lifestyle as more of a sacrifice than they are willing to make.

i could very well come to regret my flippant attitude towards all of this stuff but really i pay 0% attention to any cancer warnings. apart from general trying to stay a little healthy, as in not putting in LOTS of effort but eating my veg and getting outside everyday for a walk or whatever, i dunno i just don't really care? i may come to regret these words but i can't/be bothered to live like that.

you would care if you got cancer.

and you would say BOY I WAS A STUPID FUCK.

dont go out without sunblock. try to quit smoking or chewing tobacco. do not become an alcoholic. maybe eat something other than a powdered sugar covering over a fried pork rind. these are steps everyone can take to prevent cancer.

seriously though are you telling me if dokmartini was found 100% right and that cooked meat is a huge contributing factor in giving you cancer you would still eat loads of steak.

i'm veggie so nope!

but i see what you're saying. it takes a big thing - like, i don't smoke. i probably would smoke a lot more than i do if it wasn't dangerous, so i guess if it's extreme like that then i will avoid doing stuff. like i said i'm not really a guy who does things to excess anyway with one glaring exception and as far as that goes cancer is pretty low on the list of the reasons why i am trying to quit doing that.

i do smoke when i've been drinking so basically every now and then i like to inject a big old dump of poison into my lifestyle, i guess, but smoking when i'm sober makes me feel ill so i don't do it. that's probably a lot of a bigger reason than fear of cancer.

of course i would care if i got cancer but i don't think i actually would sit there and go "oh man if only i hadn't spent all those 10 hour sessions in a sunbed..." cos it's done? i like to enjoy myself and it's just fortunate for me that all the things i like to do don't give me cancer. i'm talking about hearing little things like using a mobile phone will increase your cancer chances by 5% or something. i totally believe it, why wouldn't i? but i just don't really...care, i guess. i don't think i'm gonna get cancer from using a mobile phone and if i do then shit i'm unlucky but it could come from a million different places and i just don't worry about it enough to defend against any but the big risk activities like smoking.

sometimes when i sit with my laptop actually on my lap my balls get a little sore and i think "..ir-irradiated nuts?? No thanks!!!". i dunno if that's a thing. not the radiation. that applying a laptop to your balls will fuck em up. i might look into that at some point. but probably not.

basically what i'm saying is health? don't give a shit. if i feel good, then i'm doing something right. if i feel shitty then i quit doing whatever that thing is. i make vague stabs at eating healthy and staying active every now and then, nothing too impressive but i think it is probably enough.

I sorta see where you're coming from Jamie, like I get what you're trying to say, but you should probably watch health warnings when it comes to stuff like cancer. At least a bit.

That said, this study needs to be a bit more full and backed up before I'll believe it. Alcohol is generally not good for you if you drink it too often and the control group is way too specific imo.

Also, what the hell was that about red wine not being healthy? Isn't this like common, proven knowledge by now?

cellphones aren't really dangerous, but the heat from a laptop's battery over time can erode your sperm count if I remember right.

yeah I kno I'm chugging on a bottle of red wine right now and I feel pretty healthy

I hate these studies though I understand the necessity but if they take away shit I enjoy out of life because its going to kill me at some point then there is no fucking point in living. I'm exaggerating a bit but yeah.

yeah it definitely feels like my sperm count is being lowered when i do that. it's kind of painful so i'm not gonna do that anymore.

Interesting study. Will it change the fact that I like to knock back 3-4 beers on the weekend though? I very much doubt it.

yeah but how many people do you know who sit with a laptop on their lap working several hours a day? i mean i'm on the computer WAY TOO MUCH and i'd say 90% of the time i use a laptop it's on a desk or table. people do that shit yeah, like a couple hours sitting on a couch with the laptop, but i don't think the number of people who sit there with their laptops on their laps long enough to have their testicles damaged is that big

i'm not challenging that it's a factor in that happening i'm just saying i don't think that's a really considerable problem among laptop users

That’s right, you have the young gaming with the old(er), white people gaming with black people, men and women, Asian countries gaming with the EU, North Americans gaming with South Americans. Much like world sporting events like the Wolrd Cup, or the Olympics will bring together different nations in friendly competition, (note the recent Asian Cup; Iraq vs. Saudi Arabia, no violence there) we come together. The differences being, we are not divided by our nationalities and we do it 24-7, and on a personal level.

We are a community without borders and without colours, the spirit and diversity of the gaming community is one that should be looked up to, a spirit and diversity other groups should strive toward.

What about the bit where people are sayin that plastic reacting with air gives off a colourless, odourless chemical mixture that causes cancer.

considering plastic's fucking EVERYWHERE we're breathing in cancerous shit on a daily basis
....Ha! Did you forget already? In my world, the color red doesn't exist.  These must be... my tears.  Ever since I woke up from my coma... ...I think I've been waiting for this very moment.  You'd do well to remember this, Maya. The only time a lawyer can cry is when it's all over.

See the whole argument of WELL EVERYTHING CAUSES CANCER doesn't really matter here, because if you can lower your chances of getting it by cutting down on the alcohol some (I'm not even saying stop entirely, just cut back), then you probably should!  There's always a risk, but why not lower that risk if it's something reasonable (especially since it will help your general health as well)?

Regarding the cancer thing:
http://www.webmd.com/cancer/news/20090226/1-in-3-common-cancers-may-be-preventable?src=RSS_PUBLIC

If you can reduce some cancers by 40%+ why not???
