-tons of gratuitously hot people.  doesn't josh whedon get awards for being feminist/progressive?  why does he exclusively cast hot women?  dushku is plainly EYE CANDY and this is the opposite of what he's regularly lauded for

See he's making a statement about women and how they're sexually exploited! (Basically all you have to do is say you're making a statement and that makes it ok to have Dushku prance around half naked for 44 minutes)

i would say calling this anti-feminist might not even be strong enough.
ep 1: tackles not just the issue of women being basically hypnotized into having sex with men (it's not rape because they think it's voluntary) but also of childhood rape as a character flaw. wow
ep 2: makes a woman run through the woods being pursued by a man who is hunting her just after he fucked her.
ep 3: makes her into a worthless pop star back up dancer. the pop star is attracted to a stalker who wants to kill her. she also takes off her top in the middle of a crowded warehouse because she's told to.

pretty sure the childhood rape part was about the how the sexy librarian hostage negotiator with cleavage persona was raped as a child and they play it off as a weakness because it is that which fucks the job up and loses the little girl.

the hypnotism part was at the start of the episode where echo is on a date with some guy as a girl of his dreams or something and the guys can have sex with the women on these date situations among others.

I like this show for what it gives me, Eliza Dushku walking around half-naked. It's not brilliant or anything but beats anything else on tv on Friday nights.

It's a shame this was up against BSG last night, but I finally got to watch the episode this morning and it was awesome! Finally the show has stopped falling into an 'engagement of the week' type deal and has introduced an overall plotline that is intriguing. I loved the interviews of random people throughout the episode, that was a nice touch. The comedic moments were great too, from the guy that wanted to experience man on man action and the look of his girlfriend's face, to Echo yelling about Porn during her engagement. The actress who plays Agent Ballard's neighbour was great too - her transition from civilian to doll was amazingly executed, the change in her facial expression was dead on. Kudos to her, and nice little twist (although I knew she was cast as Doll... I had no idea that she was a sleeper agent).

I wonder who is working with Alpha on the inside? My money is on the Asian chick working with the programmer nerd. She would have access to the imprint and be able to insert a hidden algorithm or too.

Also, it was neat to learn that there are other Dollhouses around the world. I really hope this show goes onto season 2 in order to explore the interplay between them. If the rest of the episodes are as good as this one perhaps word of mouth will spread and people will come back to this show or start watching it. If not, then I hope Joss anticipated this and at least wrote a satisfying conclusion to the season.

I liked the last episode. Shit actually happened, there's actually a main conflict. The interviews made me cringe, but everything is really coming together.

I also like what Whedon did to try to "sympathize" with the tv dude and whatnot.

The problem with that is that it's on NBC, and is apparently about football. (And not really european football :blarg:). Did I mention that it's also on NBC????

at least that first course is about how Buffy fails

there should be more courses about how things are wrong/suck/fail - like a REALLY BAD Creative Writing course like where you just have to make the paper awful in as many ways as possible but you know do it on purpose because you understand it's the wrong way

there probably is a college course on B-movies huh but it's probably completely serious like Tarantino is the professor

friday night lights isnt that good.  it's very HIGH SCHOOLISH.  "believe me...........your all i have in this world jason........." ~ high school cheerleader with loving, wealthy family, tons of friends, and great prospects.  yep.  also it's riddled with archetypes.  heh look at me im the cocky black athlete *showboats*.  hey look over here im the brooding badboy *sinks into a depression, drinks to console self, somehow doesn't come across as pathetic while doing it but rather tragically romantic, is playing football throughout this entire process for some reason*.  also there are about five different characters who are completely bland and have two defining traits: a) nice, well-mannered southern boy, and b) good at football.  this includes the main character

i mean it's a high school drama; there's only so good it can be.  my brother suggested it but he likes smallville, so you know.  its saving grace is that a good portion of its cast is adult but even their characters can be kinda dumb and the kids are genuinely insufferable a large portion of the time.  the coach's daughter especially is really just fucking awful.  remember that family guy cutaway where they were making fun of one tree hill and the one dude was like "i've got so many problems. . ." and the other was like "nothing in life will ever be more important than what's happening right now, by these lockers"?  it is like that.  except that was parody and this is earnest.  i watched a season and a half before coming to the conclusion that it's dumb for a lot of reasons.  it's watchable and it's a step above the other HIGH SCHOOL DRAMAS but it still suffers from the same stereotypical characters and melodramatic writing that make all those shows stupid!!!

also the setting is really irritating.  like a show based around high school football.  why.  everyone in the town takes it so seriously and the only people who have any business doing so are the players who're trying to get scholarships and the coach who'll get fired if he loses too many games.  the rest of them are just pathetic and absurd and it's difficult to overcome this.  it's funny when koth does it because it's a comedy but when a serious drama does it, you just kinda wanna roll your eyes.  i heard the movie version and that other movie, varsity blues, handled it well but to make it into a high school drama series that should be on the wb is kind of different and the setting is ill-suited for it.

and nah im not gonna talk about dollhouse in this topic.  fuck dollhouse, fuck joss whedon.  show blows The End!!!
