I proudly announce that Foosball Maniac is finally released.

Foosball Maniac is a realistic 3D foosball game for the PC.

It's website is:

http://foosballmaniac.com

Looking at the gameplay-video on the main page, you will immediately see how the game feels like.
The video features a match between myself (red) and a not so easy but also not the hardest opponent (6th from 8 opponents) (blue).

You can download the demo and try it for free.

The game's intended audience are both casual players and hardcore foosball fanatics.

We are interested in your first impressions/opinion about this game. We hope you will enjoy it!

If you download the demo, then you will see 7 even greater photos of men and women.
(This guy on the photo is the second weakest opponent by the way. His reflexes are certainly not as good as years ago.)

Ok, now I have changed the screenshot, so that Lisa, the 3rd strongest opponent is on the picture (after emptying your browser cahce). Velfarre, do you also like this photo? :)

Just to give you some motivation for this game:
Do you know about games, which are so hard to beat that its creators have never beaten it? This is the case with this game. Several people beta-tested this game, but noone ever has beaten the last opponent 'John the king'. When beating John there is a special screen, and the only way we could test it was 'cheating'. This does not mean that the first opponents are that extermely hard though... And also I think sooner or later someone will beat the last opponent, but I am curious who will be the first one, and when will it happen.

Lisa sucks bring back the dude with the hat!!!!!!

Also you might want to actually put some real system requirements on your site.  At least SOMETHING a little more useful than what you have.

you're wrong. it'd only have S4D all over it if it was made in RPGMaker with anime babes.

but look at this game. it's obviously not rpgmaker. and the chick in the corner? i hate to break it to you bub but she's a real girl.

True, and this guy isn't a retard either so no, I guess its not S4D.

I always thought this was the fun sorta game you play with your mates once a week at the pub or something. It looks like a good simulation of one...but I really can't see how this is in any way fun whatsoever without the whole social/competition aspect.

Yeah, being serious for a minute here, this game really does require actually playing it in real life.  It's only fun when you're with other people and physically spinning the dudes around.  Otherwise it's just pong with more paddles.

Don't get me wrong, this looks like it was MADE just fine, it's just not a good choice for a game.

yeah it's kind of a hilarious concept but I couldn't be arsed to download and play it

it should have some over-the-top fantasy sort of stuff like NBA Jam had, like flaming foosballs

also the physics look nice but I couldn't see being able to have the same feeling of control when you have to change paddles with the keyboard even if they're all mapped to their own keys, at a glance it looked like you cycle through them. Then again that aspect always confused me with real soccer video games

nice Tiesto background music

Thanks for the feedback.

Here is what I think about it (sorry for my english):

It is good that you mentioned football, and pong, because you could say that football is only interesting when having the social part of it, when 22 people play it in real life. But there are lots of computer football games, and they sell very well. Why are people playing football games on the computer? (You could also ask why are people watching it in the television instead of playing it, but it is another story.) I don't want to answer this question, because it is a complicated psychological territory, but in my opinion there are two independent key factors:

- the feeling. This is an emotional thing, in case of football partly it is that football is 'cool', somehow football became socially 'important'. At least it is cool to lead a professional football team (with David Beckam) in a crowded stadion, even if it is all virtual.

- the challenge (this is an abstract thing, basically it is about the balanced game design)

As for the emotional thing:
Certainly fewer people find foosball 'cool' than football. There are football stars, but there are not foosball stars. (Although there are exceptions, as there are some foosball fans on this planet.) Electronic Arts will probably never create a foosball game, but it is good news for a small indie like me, because this way I don't have to compete with them

As for the challenge: Pong is a good example. I think this game is at least as challenging and fun as a pong game. Think about this game as a pong with a twist. (Although I admint that it is a bit harder than the average pong, but after some practice it is more fun.) Pong games sold well, but there are tons of the clones now, so I didn't want to create yet another pong game. There are some foosball games as well, but most of them are bad, all the foosball games I tried made something wrong at least for my taste. So I thought I will create my own.

Currently my main concern is that I don't have enough marketing exposure: very few people actually know about the existence of this game. I wanted to sell this game as an indie, and didn't want to sell it through a 'casual game portal', but if there will be no choice, I will probably have to deal with them.

If anyone wants to write a review of this game at a place where lots of people are reading it, then please contact me, and I will happily send you a free reg-key. Also I am thinking about how to motivate reasonably experienced players to create cool ingame youtube-videos and insert them into their blogs or something, but I don't have a good idea yet how to motivate them.

Ragnar:
The default settings are 'rod selection: auto', 'assist: on'. So just using the mouse, without touching the keyboard it is possible to play the game on a quite high level (I played it this way in the video), although it is true that if you want to reach a very high level, then already it is better to use the keyboard also.

I came up with this special offer to gain more eyeballs to my game:

You have to beat Robert! (Yes, the guy with the hat. :))

http://foosballmaniac.com/beatrobert.html

The offer is basically that if someone heavily beats the second opponent of the game 'Foosball Maniac' and shares it on YouTube (and reaches the view count 20), then he/she gets the full version for free.

I hope some of you will try it, and will have fun with it.
