Does anyone play, or has played MUDs (Multi-User Dungeon)? They are basically the early form of MMORPGs, but were text based. I played one called Realms of Kaos for the longest time.

I played Lusternia up until the end of last year and then I found it a little boring since most of my friends were leaving. Waiting on Tears of Polaris to come out D:

I use to play the unofficial Square-Soft mud, but then they nerfed the dancer job, so i quit... also an admin pretending to be a player created a cheat that isn't really in the game and convinced me to use it, then banned me for cheating.

I played a couple of them about 2 years ago.  I was never in it for the multiplayer gameplay, though.  I just liked well-crafted levels with good writing in the descriptions, along with unique and thought-provoking quests/puzzles.  I went through this whole text-based games phase where I got down on Collosal Cavern, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and any decent MUDs I could get my hands on.  They're really some of the most challenging games you can play (took me so long to avoid that stray flying brick at the beginning of HGttG).

I remember playing one a long time ago, I think it was called Aardwolf or something along those lines. I remember not really leaving the start city much, just emoting and crap to homeless vagabonds in the alleys before beating the crap out of them.

I played a Discworld one a long time back, pretty sure it's still active.

I used to play a couple of circle muds... those were strangely addictive for awhile, and then I ran into some horrible death penalties. Glad they've evolved from that a bit!

No.  I played Neverwinter Nights on AOL back in, like, 1994-96.  Eventually they took the game offline and replaced it with some MUD called Crystal Quest 3 or somesuch nonsense.  I'll take my EGA graphics over black and white text any day.  Almost.
