There are better ways to launch applications than from desktop (that's what most people use desktop for, anyway).

These, I just like the clean look.  All the apps I use on a regular basis are in my quick launch.

Here's my new one.  I chose a red colour scheme.

lol I just liked the colours.  My sister made me change it though since it was freaking her out.

Warning: this is a very wide picture (dual-screen).
The stuff on my desktop is usually stuff I'm using right now or temporary files. I normally use the folders bar at the top for accessing all my files and the quick launch links on the start menu for starting apps. Both the folders bar and the start menu normally auto-hide. Finally the background image is custom made using some streak photography software I made a few years ago.

Agh StudioFortress I would hate to sit down at your computer because you're just like "fuck conventions, I'm going to do what works for me!".

Ah but seriously I'm sure there's a better way to accomplish what you're going for there... I think you might like Stardock Fences as you've got that whole grouping thing going on.

It used to annoy the hell out of my boss whenever he worked with me on stuff at my PC. I always found it really funny. I also use a trackball and one of those ergonomic split keyboards, that's enough to stop people from using my PC.

Thanks, but that looks like it adds panels to the desktop. I only ever see my desktop when I boot and shutdown the PC. What's so great about the folders bar is that it pops up on top of other apps, so I can grab stuff without switching away from the app. But I've since switched to Windows 7 and it can no longer do the folders bar at the top. I've had to move those folders onto the Start menu and it's no where near as good.

I'm farting around with Fences after GL suggested it a few posts up. Finding it a very fun alternative to relying completely on Rocketdock, might organise my stuff logically in future but for now it can sit around like this.

Also yeah there's a bit of faggy anime shit there i really need to get rid of it sometime

look at these guys with their dual 1080p monitors n shit. i miss money.

anyway, my desktop has taken on the role of my documents folder, among other thing, it is full of random files. saves a couple of clicks. I don't give a shit if my desktop doesn't look beauitful, it's not their to look nice, it's usually covered up anyway.

the quality looks pretty bad because it's actually an animated wallpaper and the video's resolution isn't 1920*1200 like my native resolution is but it looks good in action. here's a short video if anyone's interested:

thx2rami for the program which allows animated backgrounds.
