Yeah that sorta was confirmed by several people one page ago. It's not hilarious! It means she has no real way of doing anything since she's up against the owners of the company, who are right even when they're wrong.

Wow, some of these replies are really funny.

Yeah, she is THE John Carmack's wife. Sadly, I hear the guy is pretty cool. She lets everyone know about it too. Our 2nd assistant was talking to her one time about something while she was on the phone with him and she stomped out afterwards and said something like:
"You do not talk to John Carmack like that. HE'S THE JOHN CARMACK." and then continued to lecture her about it. I know really, who has that big of an ego? What's really funny, is our second assistant looks Ann Hathoway (but with smaller teeth and a bit prettier). Right so our boss treated her like shit for quite a while before she quit. She also took her assistant to fashion week. Sound like any movies you've seen lately? I'd never seen "The Devil Wears Proda," until a friend of mine told me that my boss sounds like her. The real difference is my boss insults people while smiling at them - as if she had said something funny.

I putting out job applications right now. My boss probably won't care if I quit - whenever we loose someone from the team that's really important - she just borrows someone from the main office from the RAGE, DOOM, or Quake Live team. And it's not like my boss hides the fact she takes advantage of people. Every time she hires someone she says that she wants to get the in-experienced newbe's that don't know what they're worth. You know there's something wrong when someone is fine with being THAT blatant.

is there something wrong with the forums, I tend to see words get replaced with other unrelated words and other words just dissapear. what is happening, am I hallucinating here? can anybody me?

Also I don't really think you can do anything. Like, you can try telling her politely that what she's doing might offend someone, but I don't see that working on her that well.

There is nothing you can do. I've been through shit like this before. there is nothing you can do but maybe pull her to the side and tell her you don't like the way she's talking to you privately and be very stern and solemn about it. Or quit. Or blow up at her and then quit which would prolly feel better.

I know people mentioned HR and shit like that but if she's in with the company owner I doubt there is little you could do unless you could prove that she was being detrimental to the company.

Imo you should get another job lined up and just fire some shit talk back until the miserable bitch decides to fire you but I guess if you were worried about your resume that might not be good either.

the thing is i wish i could say ALL YA GOT TO LOSE IS YOUR JOB but that's probably not true. she could burn you really badly and i wouldn't risk it. talking to her husband or going to hr or anything in all likelihood will either not make a difference or make it much worse and would probably have a negative impact on your future employment opportunities. you COULD talk to her. like, talk to her seriously and maybe make an appeal and see how that goes. that might not actually have much in the way of consequences because she won't feel like you're going over her head and worst case scenario she says some really horrible shit to you and makes fun of you for being such a pussy to your coworkers which, by the sounds of it, is basically what's already happening. if you don't want to do that then you need to grin and bear it until you can find another job, and exit as nicely as you can so you do not make POWERFUL INDUSTRY ENEMY.

also, is she your direct supervisor? is there anyone above you you can go to at all instead of reporting to her?

If you look at it through the eyes of an oppressed employee, it seems pretty appropriate. If you look at it through the eyes of a future employer, it seems like a good reason for them not to hire you. Then again, if you look it through a totally unbiased prespective, it comes off as pretty neutral to me.
