What is Shumps?

This looks like a well-made game! The only thing that kind of bothers me is all the projectiles/particle effects all over the place. At times, I have a hard time figuring out what's going on. I also fear that so many projectiles on the screen like that might do a number on a low-end video card or processor.

Cray: Wow, the moving platform screenshot is a lot like one of the parts in my game!

And yeah, parts of it is heavilly influenced by the BOF series too lol
I love what you did with the game, though! It looks really fun to play! Can't wait till you finish it! ^_^

I know about Lost Universe, too :P It's an old anime, but it's still cool even now. I think that was the first one of the Slayers series I actually saw.

This was a nice read.
I'm currenlty working on a game where you play one of the key characters to build the "world" that the majority of the game would take place in. It sort of has the concept of Terranigma. Future games would focus on this world, which is always ever-changing.

I'd have to go with Dragon Quest 1 and 2. When I first played those games, I didn't know that 'it pays to level up' and 'don't cross those bridges unless you're a certain level' and ended up getting some nasty surprises.
