What other games adapt to the skill of a player? The only one I can think of was the original Rayman that had the enemies adapt to you as the game went on. I remember if you always used a certain method of killing a creature they'd adapt and counter you if you tried doing it again later. It really brought something extra to the game without feeling forced or gimmicky. It just worked.

The newer Madden games adapt the computer AI difficulty based on your abilities

I still don't believe it.  They've been saying the game is coming out for over a decade, so why should we believe any differently now?

because it's a dev team that actually releases games all the time and has a current and reputable track record. 3D Realms has barely released a single original thing since the original DN3D, almost every game from them has simply been a port of DN3D with a few new levels or changes.

I quite liked the FFXIII "objective" review. Makes a point that a review without opinion is basically a discription. Funny how some people seem to have missed that.
On a side note, I actually read his propper review of the game. I would have probably given it a 6 instad of a 4 but so far (just over six hours into the game) I find myself agreeing with most of what he said. I do like the music though.

I thought at first that FF13 had the best OST in a long time, but then 15 hours later they were still looping that same fucking piano arrangement with those terrible god damn vocals in every single chapter of the game. Do you know why most videogame soundtracks rarely contain singing? Because we have to listen to them for hours and hours on end and even the best lyrics and vocals get incredibly irritating after awhile. A well done instrumental has less of an impact on us, why I don't know but we just notice it less than singing, probably because there's nothing there for us to try and understand. It doesn't help that this song was jpop garbage to begin with. I ended up just muting the game for extended periods so I didn't have to listen to it anymore

Reminds me a bit of this guy I saw a little while ago named Owen Pallet (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Owen_Pallett) He uses a loop pedal to create a full band sound. In his live shows is also that he mixes in a visual aspect, the one I saw had a woman on stage performing a shadow puppet show which was neat

Some fucko thought it was funny to heckle him tho about the fact he was using a loop pedal and would scream "PLAY THE MUSIC YOURSELF FAAAG" or something after every song

The King of Kong was a great movie, but it was a movie. Billy Mitchell was made out to be a bigger dick, the Twin Galaxies guys made out to be more scheming, and Steve Wiebe more heroic than any of them really are I think. I remember reading an interview in EGM where Mitchell accused the doc makers of embellishment and they more or less admitted to it in the interests of making a more entertaining picture. For example, the big confrontation at the restaurant actually ended with Mitchell inviting Wiebe for dinner

Long story short, Mitchell isn't an evil videogame antichrist.

Also I thought he had already reclaimed his highscore.

While the SC2 campaign wasn't anything spectacular and the plot was filled with cliches I thought it was a pretty decent introduction to the SC2 storyline. Definitely glad they decided to split the story into 3 parts because while some of the missions weren't crucial to the story I think the overall length of the campaign added to the epicness of it all, plus there's so many upgrades between missions you won't even get them all before the final act. And not to spoil to much but I was glad you were able to play as toss for a bit even though it was short lived. I thought the ending was pretty great but a little irritated that they give you a point of no return but it only ends up being 2-3 missions and then the game ends.

I'm interested to see in what happens in heart of the swarm.

I thoroughly enjoyed it too, but as you say holy shit cliches batman! It was a fucking JOKE some of the time, the crap that Raynor and Findlay spouted was like right from Generic American Action Movie. Also as I suspected, there were def filler missions or rather missions that felt like filler to some extent, though in all fairness, every single mission was fun and unique in some way. It just felt like they could've easily have been cut to turn the campaign in half the size if they really wanted, but I'm not complaining because I enjoyed it all. And I'm excited to see where the expansions go.

Also, the final Crystal mission

I heard they took out LAN except for esports or MLG or whatever people play pro starcraft for. I don't get the reason for the removal at all, but I don't play LAN starcraft anymore and I never really played it competitively.

pretty sure it's more of a backlash against the 'this is THE game to play' garbage Blizzard is banking off of than 'nonconformist hate'. there really isn't any reason to think that anyone should be interested in this game other than well its supposed to be a big deal

How about "I grew up playing SC1 with my friends in our school's computer lab and I'm excited about the sequel"????? As shitty as Phantom Menace was, you can't fucking tell me you were surprised that people were excited about a new Star Wars. This was an iconic game when I was 12, of course I'm excited to try the sequel.

I think it's because it's an entirely worse game than the original after 12 years apart from graphics. Competitive players had their massively used lan play taken away and the intense micromanagement starcraft is famous for toned down and people who just want to play through the campaign have to buy 3 separate ones to cover the costs of cinematics and activision board of directors' gigolo blowjobs.

Alright, I can't comment on the competitive aspect but I really am surprised how many people here play it competitively, but I can say I don't get this bullshit bitching about buying three separate copies. You're not, you're buying SC2 and then two expansions. SC2 contains as many missions as SC1, just not spread out over three races. I guess that rubs people the wrong way, I don't really care that much. I liked Dawn of War's campaign, and that was only like 12 missions and you only played the Space Marines. People are complaining like you only get 10 Terran missions or something. Every RTS ever gets an expansion, and whatever you say about them, Blizzard has NEVER been skimpy with their expansions.

I don't understand all the noncomformist hate for Starcraft? It's a great game, and while I'm a little disappointed that the sequel doesn't really try anything new (despite having 12 years to innovate), I can't say I'm NOT going to play it. Maybe it's not as great as Total Annihilation but they are still great RTS games?

I mean I get it if you don't like RTS games, and I get it if you're disappointed with it, but I'm a little surprised by all the NYUH UH NOT EVEN GONNA PLAY IT responses.

I mostly disagree Drule, in fact I had the opposite experience of you, sort of. I found Alan Wake was probably the tightest and best controlling survival horror EVER by a mile, but I was more or less disappointed with how unambitious the game ended up feeling. It's clear it was restructured mid development to have broader consumer appeal. I appreciate their effort to tell a story, it's a shame I was somewhat disappointed with the end.

Overall I had a fun time with it though

as far as i know Nomara has nothing to do with FFXIV, so no running around in a zipper suit with 4 belts.

This is the best description I've heard of his character designs.

I also would've accepted prostitute with absolutely impractical jewelery tastes.

I actually just moved to Miramichi, New Brunswick.  (But only for a year. I plan to be back in Canada's Atlantic Playground - man I really hate that slogan - next summer.)

You'll be an hour from me!
