This was released in 2003 so I may be late to the party on this one but I just found out about this today and I got it and I'm going to watch it tonight. T-minus: whenever it gets dark. Here's the trailer which is very good:

Tommy Wiseau was also featured in episode 5 of Tim and Eric season 4. When I first saw that episode, I didn't know The Room was a real movie I thought he was just another wackster they found in an audtion and hired him for some sketch they thought up but no! The clips from The Room in that episode are actually from the film. Here's one:

That episode of Tim and Eric was kind of crappy though. Probably the worst one of the last season.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else had seen this? I'm not even sure if it is really worth it yet - I'm thinking it really is going by the clips and the trailer - but I'll post again later when I have watched.

Apparently there are still monthly midnight screenings of this in LA. People go and basically have a party while they're watching the movie, shouting things and laughing and all of that. The man himself, Tommy Wiseau, apparently shows up to many screenings to sell DVDs and T-shirt and does Q&A sessions sometimes.

Tim and Eric had an episode about this.  It's pretty interesting.

edit: aahhhhh maybe I should read the topic

But Adult Swim once played the entire thing.  I tried watching it and it's pretty funny (there is a sex scene which is about all I need to say) but it's only watchable for so long.

I think it's been very entertaining so far but if you aren't into it from the first 15 minutes it basically just repeats those first few scenes over and over. I still have about 20 minutes to go, and there has been about 20 minutes worth of extended sex scenes to romantic music so far. I'm sure there will be another one.

It just finished. I wish it went on for longer. I recommend this movie.

edit:

I've been reading a little about the fans of this movie. Some of it seems a little annoying, like I watched some short interview Tommy Wiseau done with some interviewer and she was kind of annoying about the whole thing.

It's weird how contained the cult is within LA though. Like COMEDY MAMMOTHS such as the venerable Paul Rudd and Mr. Jonah Hill apparently like it, and Kristen Bell as well as Tim and Eric and then you've got the likes of David Cross. Like, the monthly screenings sound kind of like fun because I like the idea of going to a cinema where everyone has seen the movie a dozen times already and is just looking to have fun and scream and laugh and all that basically be a sea of dafties for the night but I don't like the idea of shouting out 'criticisms' which is apparently what people do.

You always get that with things like this though. People going "oh hah ha that acting is so bad" "man GET YOUR ACTRESS IN FRAME DUDE lmao." "man this film blows so hard ahah hahh hah". That kind of deflates the whole experience for me!

They also perform skits, at one point gathering at the bottom right of the screen and shouting, ''Down here, Tommy!'' anticipating the moment when the face of the lead actor, Tommy Wiseau, looks in their direction. And they comment loudly on blurrily shot scenes (''Focus!'') or inadequately introduced characters (''Who the f--- are you?'').

yelch

I think this is a good movie to watch with friends like a dozen of you sitting in a living room. I'm going to do that this summer.

I love this movie! It's amazing!

I especially loved it when it was on adult swim because they just put huge blackouts over the nudity. Priceless.

I can only stomach to watch this maybe once every few months though because it really truly is as bad as it set out to be.

we have a theatre in omaha that plays cult movies at midnight on fridays and saturdays and it is a blast because everyone is loud and obnoxious and they are old movies so no one gets mad.
I specifically remember the first time i saw smokey and the bandit at this theatre because burt reynolds' junk is so cleverly inserted into a few scenes but obvious on a projection screen.

I'd never even thought of suggesting this movie to them though, everybody who works at this place are film students so no doubt this would be a hit.

I feel kind of bad for laughing at this guy(Tommy Wiseau)'s work because he does seem like a genuinely naive, nice person; I especially felt bad when I read he tells people he meant for it to be funny all along. But this movie is truly terrible and that makes it a lot of fun to watch with all your witty, malice-filled buds.

The bit about breast cancer had us in stitches, as odd as that sounds to people who haven't seen the movie or clip. Keep your stupid comments in your pocket was a pretty good retort also, I think. Thanks for posting it.

I know what you mean im9today, I feel bad for the guy because this movie definitely isn't bad for lack of effort. He done everything for this movie! Raised $6 million of his own bucks and wrote, directed and starred in it and his acting definitely isn't lazy (it's crazy). Also he just seems like a goofy guy who doesn't mean any harm and I read a couple of snippets where the people on the movie don't have anything bad to say about his personality aparently he is just nice.

I don't mind laughing at the movie though because I think Tommy Wiseau is just happy for it to get all this attention and interest from people.

I was just watching a Q&A with Tommy Wiseau that he done before a screening and he mentioned something about someone who once told him that if they or their friends were depressed or just feeling blue they would sometimes watch The Room and it would go away. I think this might be true because I really can't imagine still feeling malaised or bored etc after having watched this. To an extent, obviously, but I think that's nice.
