I actually didn't mean because of spoilers because I normally don't mind them and can avoid them easily enough if I want to.  It's more the insane outrage over the ending that I find irritating.  GET OVER IT NERDS.  There was some internet contest somewhere for the worst company in America (or just in general?) that EA "won" over Bank of America, and yeah I understand that it is just some nonsense internet contest with no effect on the business practices of the companies that win, but it just strikes me as INTERNET CRUSADE that was perpetuated by people who got up in arms over the ending of ME3.  (Also I understand that EA has a number of other shitty business practices but I'm still convinced it was the ME3 ending that convinced the mouth breathers that they were worse than fucking BANK OF AMERICA).  dumb ending, who cares.
Oh I know you weren't talking about spoilers. I just hate spoilers is all.

I have not seen the ending yet. but I had a "friend" (old roommate) text me a... well I pretty sure he sent be a massive spoiler to troll me. I have since severed all contact with this person. Even downloaded a phone blocker on my android just to block him. :P and every time someone talks about ME3 ending I'm reminded.

I'm sure the 'complete' ending is probably fine and the people bitching about it are just, well, the type of person that wants everything to end the same way.

Oh and letting an audience choose the ending is a terrible, awful, terrible, GODAWFUL idea. One which I've heard EA/Bioware are putting into practice.

Imagine if every TV show, movie, Video Game, and book were all ended by a vote of all the fans/readers/viewer/gamers? Every ending would end up being the same, none of the story's parts before reaching the end would be interesting, because all you have to do is figure out what the most popular ending is. Enjoying such entertainment would be impossible. Unless you like flashbacks. And if you like flashbacks, what the fuck is wrong with you? *shakes head*

I agree, theres not an important emphasis on story. You got an audience that wants a good story but they buy up shit with an emphasis on graphics and game mechanics (I guess) and then they complain to fucking hell when they get something without a good story when they expected one.

which is why final fantasy sucks

Man I get sick everytime I think about the last one.

Skyrim was pretty good storywise. Maybe not on elderscroll terms but generally it was good. I dunno anymore recent ones though other than like, mass effect and fallout new vegas. 2010/2011 I mean

Seriously though that game was so fucking inane, childish, and dumb. Any one of those new dr. seuss movies walked circles around that shit. Or the one about the hamburgers falling out the sky....makes more since than a bigass snowglobe full of shitty characters...

Is it odd that I, only a few years ago, tried playing all the FF games and failed to play any of them substantially? because I thought all the stories were dull and uninteresting... I mean, I played BELOVED 6 and 7. Neither seems compelling, story wise, and the translation made it hard to follow/care about/take seriously.

I also played 1 and 4. 1 I actually played a decent amount, but I still got bored. 4 I ran into a save game problem (I was playing it on a emulator) and lost like 2 hours of progress so I dropped it. It seemed ok. but just ok. *shrugs*

And I played about an hour of 10. Ugh, I couldn't enjoy it either. Main character was very dumb.

The only FF game I've played and enjoyed was tactics and that was because of its GAMEPLAY (I like tactics games). Not its gripping story (which I don't remember in the slightest).

I too played about an hour of 10 and quit. I felt like I only had control of about half of that hour and none of it seemed interesting.

I started playing Pokemon Black. It makes me feel super old as this was the first one I've really played since Gold and Silver came out when I was like 9 or whatever. I think they took the story a bit too seriously this time as really, all Pokemon games are for is catching Pokemon, grinding, and dominating the gyms. I like that you have two rivals but don't like that they're your friends (I miss having the option to name your rival "Assface" or something) and the guy that chose the Pokemon that's weak against your starter might as well just give you money and save himself embarrassment. I find the music rather dull. I know there's nothing bad about the songs, they just are completely unmemorable and dull. I miss the simple catchy tunes the first couple generations had. The graphics are pretty cool but I think they are starting to run out of cool designs for Pokemon. I'll probably play it through all the way because it's sort of nostalgic to play them, but it's just not as lovable to me as the first two generations are.

u playin it bro? groan whops i mean you like it/is it HOW good, elaborate. it seemed like repeat of old-hc dungeon masters (which don't get me wrong: owns, bonzi proceeds to all-female party + editing the pixel portraits of females to nude) but are there something new/interesting in it/there? some interesting/experimental content? also ahhaah it seems it's made by finnish huh

All I could remember from playing the newest pokemon was that for me, it always lagged right before going into a battle. Maybe it was because I was playing a rom of the game, but I am not going to spend 29$ just in order to test that theory. (especially since even without that split second of extra waiting time, I do not find the game to be worth paying for)

It's not that complicated, it's just Pokemon. It is one of the only games imaginable where exactly this type of thing should never be an issue. I don't have to analyze the plot, or complain about any of the new pokemon designs. A Pokemon game that involves any amount of lag is all the evidence I need that these people have lost touch completely.

i've never played the other FPS crawlers that it's referencing, but I like it almost as much as isometric stuff like avernum and exile, and it reminds me of those games insofar as every single resource you get feels incredibly valuable, combat is basically a race against death, and it feels like stuff you do actually matters in the scope of the game.  for example, when you get to one of the healing crystals at the end of a level it elicits a pretty huge feeling of relief, since that means less food you have to waste resting.  when you solve a tricky puzzle it's rewarding, because the puzzles are actually sort of difficult.  when you find a secret it makes you feel clever to have read the clues that the developers leave for you.

there's a lot of very simple game verbs that you can do and the designers make full use of all of them.

really it's the antidote to story-heavy grindfests.  not to say there isn't a story, it's just told through what you do in the game instead of a bunch of cutscenes.  character building is satisfying, but it always feels like you're getting just the right amount of stat points instead of mindlessly engaging in combat until your X is at Y to satisfy condition Z to beat the boss.

also it has great atmosphere.  a gritty crumbling prison mountain, essentially.

Yeah it basically is that, just a nice callback to those old school dungeon crawler games. The combat takes place in real time, though, which is interesting strategically. You can come up against multiple enemies while locked in a small room, and you have to maneuver around (backwards).

To learn spells to find scrolls which show a sequence of "runes" and when you cast a spell, you input the series of runes and hit a cast button. It's kind of neat. There's nothing super groundbreaking or anything like that, but it's definitely well made.
yes coulombs are "germaine", did you learn that word at talk like a dick school?

ohhh!!! then it's a shameless update of engine from dungeon master/return to chaos/chaos strikes back but that's okay. all of those are cool games. even those were real-time even though you can't see the moving animation of enemies and probably less to no quick time events (eg troll rushing at you). maybe... some of these youngsters, when they're done with grimrock... they try chaos strikes back, only to give up at the starting room... :^B

at least a game that you hate / that stinks elicits some sort of emotional reponse, even if it's not the intended one. i think these are just too bland even for that

Just played Oregon Trail. finished it on first try, didn't realize it's all about the score at the end, if i had a rest a while before finishing i could have had their health better for a higher score.

This is why I will never even try to play Mass Effect.

I cannot stand the thought of playing through a series of games that will probably be a bigger waste of time for me than watching Dr. Who (if for nothing else, Dr Who is something I can claim as something that elicits pure and honest hate from the very depths of my heart)

I just wish people would stop casually mentioning that game to me as if it is something that they expect me to have already played. I hate trying to explain why I have no interest whatsoever in trying to play that game from the viewpoint of someone that never has played any of those games.

I thought Mass Effect 2 was pretty good, but I'm not sure if I thought this relative to how totally awful Mass Effect 1 was. It felt like there was more of an earnest attempt at characterization and engaging scenarios in Mass Effect 2 that wasn't really present in the first one, like they weren't just trying to push the empty larger narrative of the series and were just focusing on smaller narratives. All of that was replaced in Mass Effect 3 with GO KILL SOMEBODY BECAUSE OF MACGUFFIN and a seemingly infinite amount of conversations where Shepard asks SO, IS YOUR FAMILY DEAD YET.

I almost reached the point in this series where I thought it might be worth playing, but I'm nowhere close to thinking this anymore. Never play anything fucking bioware makes, they should not be encouraged.
