I'm glad that my opinion of Mass Effect after playing it in an internet cafe for twenty minutes has been vindicated.

Currently taking a second crack at FF12. I don't remember anything that happened the first time I played it (didn't finish,) so it's like playing a brand new game. The combat is a terribly unengaging optimisation process, and I don't have many feelings about the characters, but it's better than FF10 and I need to play something to keep me motivated/enraged enough to finish making my own game. I'm starting to get into the political backstory a little bit. I hope that it continues to get more complicated and maybe the characters show some human traits, because that and getting more license board squares of questionable relevance are the only things that are keeping me at it.

Is it odd that I, only a few years ago, tried playing all the FF games and failed to play any of them substantially? because I thought all the stories were dull and uninteresting... I mean, I played BELOVED 6 and 7. Neither seems compelling, story wise, and the translation made it hard to follow/care about/take seriously.

I also played 1 and 4. 1 I actually played a decent amount, but I still got bored. 4 I ran into a save game problem (I was playing it on a emulator) and lost like 2 hours of progress so I dropped it. It seemed ok. but just ok. *shrugs*

And I played about an hour of 10. Ugh, I couldn't enjoy it either. Main character was very dumb.

The only FF game I've played and enjoyed was tactics and that was because of its GAMEPLAY (I like tactics games). Not its gripping story (which I don't remember in the slightest).

7, 8, and 10 all had pretty good concepts but were poorly executed. I think seven mostly falls short because of like you said translation and the shortcomings of the videogame industry for the time it was made. No really good writers gave a shit at the time and the guy who wrote it had a great screeplay kind of concept and idea going but failed short in character expression and conveyance of emotion.

I think 8 is just a futuristic rehash of some romeo and juliet, shakesphere style shit. Which for what it was aiming at and how it approached was cool but the characters/their interactions were lame as hell and it went quickly downhill from good idea to way too corny and undeveloped to appreciate.

The whole perversion of one attempting to be a martyr into a gigantic apocolyptic hell beast was a cool theme to go with too in 10 but the characters had the same kind of indeveloped immaturity that ff13 had a problem with and ruined it.

I 've always had a fond spot in my heart for 6; As I said before, I especially empathized with Terra, a being uncertain how or whether she belonged.
Currently I'm replaying Guardian of Paradise, a fun game for windows- I've linked to the English patch. if you pick it up make certain you also get a copy of d3drm.dll as otherwise it won't work. Really cool game and even a few mythical references. I ran into a creature in the Tower of Wind that I'm pretty certain is a Kamaitachi,  a weasel-like youkai that travels in wind.

Well, I plan on eventually playing it anyway. I already beat 1 and 2. I'm not going to skip out on the god damned ending of the series. Ugh, Kind of how I decided to watch the last 2 seasons of Lost... :(

Still Playing Morrowind. Despite the fact that I've basically maxed out all of my base stats and regularly destroy everything in a single blow.

are you doing the expansion content?  that makes it harder, but not really hard in a fun way.  like the liche boss of tribunal has 90% magic and physical resistance so it's really just a matter of you struggling against morrowind's boring combat system to click on it enough time to kill it.  same w/ bloodmoon's last area where they throw 20 or so werewolves at you and you click them until you win.

Yeah, that is currently sort of the problem I'm facing, I mostly just playing it to see what happens in some of the quests and story lines. I'm play tribunal stuff right now, then I'm going to play through the regular temple stuff, I also might use that glitch that lets you join 2 houses (obviously joining Redoran and Hlaalu) and do those. THEN I'll either start up the main story or the bloodmoon expansion. Then I've basically covered all the quest content other than all the misc. quests scattered about the game.

but it's better than FF10 and I need to play something to keep me motivated/enraged enough to finish making my own game.

Yeah, I thought almost the exact same thing last time I played FF12. (the difference being that I never played FF10, so I played through FF12 to make sure I wasn't curious enough to make the mistake of ever playing FF10) I can only speak for personal experience, but despite thinking it would help motivate me to work on my own games, that did not work out at all.

The way I see it, I don't think there is a single final fantasy game that won't do anything but distract you from making games. But if you want to try for it anyways, your best chance is to try tricking a friend into playing FF13 while you sit in the same room watching him do it.

If you are next to your computer, or next to anything really, you cannot help but find any way imaginable to distract yourself from watching your friend play FF13. Any time you do look at the person playing FF13, you will be so pissed off you will eventually force yourself to make a better game, since it would be stupid easy for anyone to do given how awful that game is. (Also, the best part of it is no matter how little actual progress you get in making that game of yours, it will feel like more of an accomplishment than ANYTHING your friend could ever accomplish while playing FF13)

bonzi_buddy, i looked it up and apparently that's in FF13, which I have no intention of playing whatsoever. for what it's worth, i didn't like ff8 the three or so times i tried to start it. the only final fantasy game i feel has much merit is the sixth one. perhaps once i sort out my ability to pay for things, i will play DQ8 instead, which mr. sime has strongly recommended on at least two occasions.

finally got through the d3 queue to play it.  pretty fun.  at first it felt like it'd been dumbed down, but thinking about it they didn't really remove anything that wasn't already pretty dumb (like how assigning skill points is a foregone conclusion of enough to equip whatever, nothing in energy, everything else in vitality).  you only get so much room to play with skills, but it seems like skill runes are going to create a lot of depth.  graphics and, ergh, 'gamefeel' are all really tight.  also i like that there're legit gold sinks now - looking forward to seeing how artisans pan out.

Still not Mass Effect 3. I want my £34 back to be honest.

I've been playing a lot of Pocket Racing 2 on my iPhone. I'm addicted to time trials in racing games right now :/

Yeah man, I'm digging it too. There's enough variation in all the skills that you can pick from, that you can really play very different styles, moreso than D2 made it seem like you could. I mean whenever someone complains about it being "dumbed" it basically amounts to "I can't assign these skill points individually even though they will always be assigned in some "perfect" way." I dunno it's like they just removed this illusion of choice and instead made it much more obvious what you actual choices are.

Also apparently gems are going to play a more important role as well.

I like it. For a cap of 13 you get an awful lot of skills, so far I like the witch doctor for some reason. I got a monk and wizard up there, wizard is pretty nice as well. I'd like to try each of the classes but it seems like demon hunter is the most OP class, at least at an early level they can tear shit up very fast.
yes coulombs are "germaine", did you learn that word at talk like a dick school?

I was thrilled with GT5 when I got it for christmas and the whole family took turns in doing the top gear track with the wheel but I couldn't keep up playing it because my ps3 shit itself and died. Before that happened though I had the chavviest Renault Clio sport (probably faster than a Ferrari).

Fuck Sony and Microsoft for making consoles that barely last 24 months when there are perfectly working 24 year old Nintendos.
