No what I mean is that my first post was making a joke, that "probably 50% of people accidentally kill him" because he just pops up out of nowhere and startles people. I know why he exists, that has nothing to do with anything. Also you seem to be under the impression that my post was directed at you like "you killed this guy" and that wasn't what I was saying at all. The reason I say your comprehension is bad is because it's not even confusing, nothing indicated that I was saying something about you specifically. It's ok dday no judgements you know.

Also technically you can't kill Frampt. You can hit him once to wake him up and do that stuff, and if you keep attacking him he'll just do that thing where he says you aren't the chosen one and then leaves.

didn't know that since I never hit him.

Gah still playing Oblivion. I'm at level 27. Recently completed all but the last Daedric quest. Now for the first time I'm actually exploring all those random caves and fortresses and such that I ran across doing quests. They just sort of piled up and I often skipped them to just continue my quest but now they are calling to me to explore them. Same with 90% of the Oblivion Gates. I've only entered like 3 of the 15 or so oblivion gates I've run across so I'm doing those too now.

Also, I purposefully started and then failed the evil daedric quests so they could be considered 'finished' (so I could acquire a powerful artifact later) because their quests were too full of assholery and I don't play evil characters in games when I can help it. Mephala's in particular was bad. Seriously, fuck her quests.

Game mechanics rant:
the defensive Sigil stone powers obtained from the gates are pretty good... but...

Its odd though, the damage output for the offensive sigil stone enchantment powers that I get are much weaker than offensive enchantments that I create on my own. As soon as I discovered creating my own enchantments I did some simple math to figure out the most effective damage enchantment over all is a combination of weakness to magic and all 3 elemental damage types. And for bows its also worth while to spread out the damage over time further maximizing the damage since the target you would be hitting would be further away. For instance my current Bow's set up:

45% weakness to Magic
7 Shock Damage for 3 seconds
7 Fire Damage for 3 seconds
6 Frost Damage for 3 seconds

which with the weakness part is really just:
10 shock for 3 seconds
10 fire for 3 seconds
8 frost for 3 seconds

Giving me 84 damage for a single hit from my bow's enchantments. (assuming no other resistances or weaknesses) and this is ignoring the potential to double up on the weakness effect if I hit the target within the 3 seconds following the initial shot (which is admittedly difficult usually), which would further add to the damage.

While a sigil stone gives me 25 points of damage, which isn't even as much as 1 second of damage from the bow enchantment I made. The only nice thing about it is that I get a lot more uses, but that means little if you have Azura's Star and you just refill on every soul you collect.

Combine all that with enchanted arrows and poisons I usually kill even the strongest enemies with 1-3 hits, on the lower end of that scale if I just hold of on firing and let the poison kill them after the first shot or 2.

I completed LIFE OF D. DUCK 2! It's one of the first AGS games I've ever actually seen through to the end - fuck, I don't complete MOST games actually, never mind indie developers' titles.

I found the humour utterly enthralling, the puzzles made a lot of sense, the settings were just small enough for me to not be constantly backtracking screens in case I'd missed shit. Good times for sure.

"HELLO D. DUCK"

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/obsidian/project-eternity HOLY FUCKING SHIIIIITT, the BG-era rpg the Obsidian dream-team is making raised 800 000 dollars in a fucking (first!) DAY. Look at the fucking reward system to donations. Look at it, holy shit. The taverns are ALREADY SOLD OUT, there's max of 20 player/custom made npc's to get in the game. perverse, brilliant, PERVERSE, steve jobbs ghost looks amazed...!

And tbh im pretty fucking excited since these guys seem to know what really mattered in that era of RPG's. don't have lots of money to drop on this though, groan no 10000dollars then... but I'd like to support these guys anyways despite the end-result so i'll drop in the 20 dollars.

Completely agreed. Like I really wish I'd had the $10,000 haha.

For years I've wanted a new late 90s/early 00s style party-based D&D CRPG and had pretty much given up on their being a new one (especially after the apparent shitness of Daggerdale). Even the BG1 & 2 remakes just seem to be literal ports of the old games.

So fuck yes. This was pretty fantastic news, especially as when I first saw it I was all "Oh no, only 33 days left to gather $1,000,000!!!" Haha, how wrong I was to doubt!

if u know bonzi u know even this is a restrained post...

it is pretty exciting tho, because as good as baldur's gate is it's NOT ENOUGH especially bc the early/weak hero levels are the best part. and I like that they don't even mention NWN2 they wanna get their name as far as they can from that game I guess? I hope it's not too much like planescape tho talk about snoozefest

yeahh i remember what hundley wrote about planescape: torment and that seemed hella bad. But i'm gonna trust that these guys just want to do What They Want (*chris avellone rips apart dragonage 3 script in front of him* NO MORE FUCKING HOT ELF BABE EASY ROMANCES!!! FUUUUCCCCKKK!!!!!). certainly there's the incentive to Listen To Fans (due to kickstarter) but hopefully they'd Listen To Reason too.

besides, i registered into obsidian's forum since they're hoping for ideas from fans so we'll see if my purple body can be seen from all the people in that Huge Plaza. it kinda reminds me of the convo we brainstormed shortly here about ideas of the Ideal Rpg/past experiences with the black isle/obsidian rpg's! we'll see if i get my ideas to them. it might seem like "fanboyish" but it's not like i have tons of free time this month after school and Chris Awellone seems to be reading and commenting the Obsidian forums frequently & asking suggestions for game mechanics. there is a slight chance...these anime underways...!

which reminds me that i was back then pretty adamant about nwn being complete shit but i have to give that since the graphics/music/esthetics were taken pretty far, i WAS pretty immersed on it initially! these amazing dolby surround experiences... but yeah, the brutal truth was revealed from under the pretty light effects...

EDIT ahhaha, the obsidian's site and forum's are constantly down. looks like they can't afford the extra bandwith for more people.

thats aerie man

the NWNs are still good I think, I mean as far as fantasy stuff goes. not dragon age level shit. it's just dry enough, but still shallow compared to bg

btw if this was any other company I'd be really skeptical about making their own world and lore, but with obsidian it's not so much coming up with something that isn't awful as it is finishing what they've set out to do

I'm really excited about the Obsidian game as well. I hope with Kickstarter they finally have the resources to get their games as smooth as they should be. And when I heard that Chris Avellone, Tim Cain and Josh Sawyer were working on a game together I got all giddy with joy.

picked up borderlands 2. been kinda blitzing through it, despite not being particularly crazy about it. one of those games where you kinda bounce between superficially enjoying it and disliking it, but invariably finding yourself deeply dissatisfied after you've stopped playing, like you've done something unusually worthless with your time.

i don't know if the whole borderlands thing just wore out its welcome with me, but i don't remember feeling quite like this with the first one. that wasn't a particularly noteworthy game either, but it was pretty well designed and at times an reasonably funny game. i think what gets me in this is how empty and senselessly derivative absolutely every part of the story is. they were guilty of that in the first one, but they're much more guilty about it here, like virtually everything the story covers needs some internet meme validation or another dreadful pop culture/movie reference, the rest just standing on the already flimsy shoulders of the first one. i was plowing away at all the sidequests for a while but eventually lost full interest when i began dreading what menial task they'd couple with an empty humorless reference.

i'm kinda lacking positive things to say about the game, really. it's playable much of the time, enough minor changes to the item/combat system to feel like an evolution of the first game, but none of that really seems to add up to anything. they throw shit at you a bit harder in this than in the first game, which makes the whole experience a bit more wearying most of the time, although that might just be a function of my being notably less eager to grind in this one. i don't find much of the locations too engaging anyway, and not visually intuitive most of the time, but that was often the case in the first one as well.

i almost kinda chalked this up to just being tired of grinder shooters, but i had actually been mindlessly playing the mass effect 3 multiplayer off and on before going into this, and somehow hadn't gotten seriously tired of it, so there's probably something at least peripherally wrong with this game for me to be so repulsed by it.

i'd say avoid this if you're on the fence about it. you really need to WANT to like this game to get anything out of it.

I actually pretty much felt that the first Borderlands was pretty shallow mechanically. And I ended up doing side quests when I should not have because it made the game boringly easy. I went in with a completionist attitude which ruined the game for me.
