not really, it comes off negatively to the gaming subculture, as well as subconciously affecting those who play it, further reinforcing the naive sexist beliefs that are rampant in said subculture. With GTA I can understand because it's done with a level of matuirty now, but saints row's preoccupation with whores is baffling, when you go into one of the strip clubs or see a hooker, it's pretty clear that the games designer has done none of those things personally, and is just basing it on the hollywood movie version of sexuality, which is fucking fake and creepy. One of my close friends who I trust prettymuch more than anyone else alive is a drug addict who prostitutes herself for money. I also know drug dealers and have had naruto orientated conversations with proper tough gang members. It's a world I have a suprisingly close connection to, so the way saints row represents it, to me is really absurd and disgusting, because it glamourises certain kinds of people, none of which would be there if they had any choice in the matter. It's kinda like inri's view on black people really.
GTA IV was really good at showing how shit a life it really was, and that everybody involved was ultimately pathetic and in the end, truely helpless to their situation. Those who had a choice but chose the life of crime, were the bad guys.
it's a true guilty pleasure, i hate myself for playing it and giving these creepy naive bastards my money, but i can still have fun on it. I guess it's kinda like watching porn, yet somehow more sexist.
