I rented saints row 3 based on what I've read here and what I've seen about the character creation. I like it so far, but I think probably only because I'm playing as a woman with a pompadour. play this game as a swanky macho male character, as is probably intended, and suddenly it's super gross

it's one of the only games i've played in recent years (fallout nv is another) where playing as a female character by choice feels REALLY GOOD.  especially if you use the russian woman voice.  you actually get to wear WHATEVER you want instead of "here's a few revealing dresses have fun" and the cutscenes literally do not change with you being a woman instead.  there's no reminders that you're a woman, you're just THE BOSS and that's all that matters.

yeah that's pretty neat. I like that you can just punch people who whistle at you or make rude remarks too. I'm a little disappointed female chars can't have more prominent muscles or different body types tho. my female SC V fighters are all either highly muscular or average-build and wearing skulls and claws and named "normal gal" or exact replicas of Grace Jones (I've made 43 custom chars, 14 are yoshimitsu color swaps and the rest are/were create-a-soul women (dday is the only one who knwos what I'm talking about))

I never played a Saints Row before so I figured I'd rent first, but idk who I'm kidding I'm gonna buy any even vaguely interesting game with this level of customization

I played as myself in the first 2. Then discovered that the boss is a total asshole.

this might be sort of pitiful, but i've been really in to this 10 dollar casual game called luxor evolved that i found on steam:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpirEu6I6Wk

it's like zuma (fire balls at color matches to clear chains before the main string hits a certain point) mixed with space invaders, where you go along the bottom of the screen and collect power ups

i was playing rage before that, and got sort of tired of the quests and back tracking, so just having something to sit down to for 30 minutes to an hour at a time is nice.  it's also decently hard.

I finished rage in  about 11 hours 50 mins and thats with ALL missions done, including side quests, I think i did all the racing stuff too as i got pretty much all of it, oh and i Did it on hard. kinda short, not as much as i was expecting, for a "WHOLE NEW WORLD" to explore and a "NEW IP" I was expecting more, especialy when it took up over 25 FREAKING GIGABYTES! skyrim takes up 9 and I'm STILL no where neear finishing (I get side tracked a lot and like to explore) and acoirding to ID skyrim is also easier to mod so YAY free new content :D.

i find myself wishing rage was just an infinite dungeon of randomly generated enemy encounters with mild rpg elements, because the gunplay is really fun and the resource management is not

it's the prettiest game i've ever played tho

I got bored and downloaded the Honest Hearts DLC of Fallout: New Vegas. I think gameplay wise it is absolutely atrocious as it is just about all fetch quests with a good bit of pixel (polygon?) hunting. However, I find the story really cool and think it's interesting to learn more about the Burned Man and the different tribes that would have been in the Interplay version of Fallout 3. I also walked by a guy named "Two Bears High-Fiving" so that almost makes it worth the 10 bucks I payed for it. I knew I should have just waited until the ultimate version, but whatever.

I kind of get the impression that Obsidian didn't have much time to actually make the DLC and focused more on the story and dialogue for them more than the gameplay from the DLCs I've played. I kind of wish Obsidian could get like 3 years to make a game so they could work out all the bugs and gameplay shit and make something as good as their ideas are.

I didn't finish Honest Hearts but what I did play of it was really good.  Like you said the quests are pretty whatever but the setting and the story were really really cool.

a couple years ago I was the only person here who thought bioshock sounded like total trash. didn't play it tho, there were like 3-5 years where no one released any games that were worth playing at all

dead money was pretty good. hundley liked it a lot too. I wish they'd done more with the survival aspect tho, maybe I had to be playing on hardcore mode

and yeah, the setting and the survivalist background story make Honest Hearts worthwhile. the Burned Man is a pretty interesting idea in concept, but in execution he turns out to be just a really boring and ineffectual protoplasm

everything they do is unfinished, including New Vegas itself. they're like procrastinators, they COULD finish it on time but have anxiety over being judged on their full effort. so they send out half-finished junk and soak up all the praise over their apparent great ideas that just didn't make it into the game

I'm pretty sure a lot of this has to do with them getting deals to do quick sequels for Bioware and Bethesda games. I think they only got like a third of the time to make New Vegas than it took to make Fallout 3, yet they tried to make a bigger game. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with the South Park game as it's not a sequel and they can get graphics done so much faster so maybe they can finish the damn thing.

I thought Fallout 3 was pretty good until I played New Vegas and realized that it fixed nearly every single thing that sucked in Fallout 3.  It was AGES before I went back and actually beat FO3.

Also yeah the South Park RPG thing is a waste considering South Park is a vile piece of shit that reinforces some really horrible viewpoints.  There's not even any hope that they might try to take it in a different direction considering one of the character classes is JEW welp good job everyone.

My experience of Fallout 3:
U start the game as a baby. Fuck you dad, I hate you dad. Try to kill dad.
Can't kill dad.
Start the game in a stupid ugly town.
There is only one other real town, populated by rag dolls you can't kill.
There's a pimp, for some reason, and an offensive follower character who's a slave who keeps saying "You can take anything you want, honey" over and over.
Find dad in virtual reality. I hate him and want him to die. Try to kill him again, you can't kill him. Why does he have a british accent.
When he finally dies it doesn't make me feel any better because the Brotherhood of Steel are so stupid.
You literally can't kill almost any of the NPCs, or even put slave collars on them.

When I rescued the dad character, I just followed him through the wasteland firing everything I had at him and watching him flop around, then committed suicide.

Don't forget "walk forever through vast expanses of nothing/get frustrated because you cannot jump over giant inexplicable pile of rubble that forces you to zigzag around a predefined path".  The more I remember about playing Fallout 3 the more I remember why I didn't finish it for ages.

Also somethin' or other about transformers at the end idk

I think it had a few good things none of which I can remember at the moment but overall New Vegas is everything that Fallout 3 isn't.

I thought that the Legion storyline in New Vegas was an excellent roleplaying experience. They did their best to make the leader convincing when he outlines his philosophy (did anyone else get the dialogue where he talks about Hegel?) while they put the evidence that he was disgusting in front of you: slaves... I think they're white supremacists... I guess that's about it... I don't really mind that he crucifies the democracy soldiers, really, fuck democracy. I wish that the anarchists had more of a playable storyline and that it was an option for them to take over the Mojave, but I guess I could play the earlier Fallout games for more of their story.
