Mori has a serious stick stuck up his butt!!!!!!!  :fogetsad:

GW is not 100% game making and never really has been. It's a general community where people talk about pretty much whatever they want. Also the "the members are growing up and losing interest in game making because they have lives now" excuse for the decline in activity does not fly, because it does not explain why new YOUNG members are not coming in.

Why isn't everyone getting that GW wasn't made to be a social community? It is now sure, but that's because it has BECOME one. The reason it doesn't grow anymore is because why would it? What does GW offer that other social communities do not?

Is it our thriving art community, literature community? You guys seem to have some seriously delusional ideas about this place.

Like seriously, tell me why 'new YOUNG members' would come here? We're here because we've all been here a long time, know each other, and have an attachment to this place. If you HAVEN'T been, what's here for you?

I've been saying for years that this place is more or less just a private community now, yet nobody seems willing to accept it.

There is no telling what the community is or was "meant to be". GW is undergoing a big change right now, and hopefully it will lead to some positive results.

Stop having this discussion, it's dumb.

Actually there is firm telling what this community was meant to be, an amateur gamemaking community.

People need to realize that GW didn't die, amateur gamemaking died. Where do you think rpg2knet and sites like there are now? It's not like GW just caught some socially CRIPPLING illness and nobody wants to be here anymore. Nobody comes because the unifying reason which brought at least ENOUGH (And by enough I'm talking about tens of thousands) of us together, which encouraged the rest of you who claim you were never here for gamemaking in the first place to come here, has passed.

Gamemaking was boom and bust. It boomed, it busted. End of story.

I honestly don't know what there is to get about that. Why can't everyone just accept this place for what it is?

(I know this post will probably get me warned or something but it seems SO OBVIOUS that I don't understand how people even wonder 'why gw died')

nobody is arguing that rpgmaker shit is dead mori we are arguing that gw doesn't have to just stagnate just because rpgmaker is dead, it doesn't even matter what gw is NOW it could be something totally different next month so you saying ACCEPT IT IT'S DEAD IT DIED WITH RPGMAKER doesn't mean shit

Nobody cares what you think about the state of games. I've been trying to tell you nicely to shut up, so stop arguing with yourself over a nonexistent issue.

Also the "the members are growing up and losing interest in game making because they have lives now" excuse for the decline in activity does not fly, because it does not explain why new YOUNG members are not coming in.

It seemed like he provided a perfectly reasonable explanation for new young members not coming in. What the hell motivation is there for new young people to join an online webforum for it's social or general aspects? It's not like this place is so relaxed and renowned that it's a worldwide brand destined to feed folk into the forums automatically. It just sounds like you expect the people to come, never thinking that the truth of why new members are not coming in could be that there is no reason? Maybe the members that would have joined this place need a reason, and GW simply doesn't provide it anymore.

I'm just saying keeping current members and attracting new members are two different matters entirely, and GW has recently been slacking at both fronts.

He's not saying you have to accept that GW is dead because of RPGMaker. All he said was that from the fact that GW was built and established to provide gamemaking resources centered around RPGMaker, you can't find it suprising when a prime source of new members is tied to that factor. It's a prime example of stagnation, and you really can't be shocked at the results or treat it as a casual matter.

All I can think of now is to center it on something else. We got a vibrant enough community of programmer game-dev folk. I say we make GamingW an XNA site (That might give us a year or two).

Memories...

Remember when GW5 was active? Every single day there were 70+ viewers at any time on the main site. There were new games put up every day, articles, tutorials, resources, music, and new shit all the time. We had TONS of content and games for all different GCSes!

I think GW was doomed when GW5 hit the fan and the first forums exploded and got pruned. We didn't have a proper main site for over a year. Finally, when GW6 did come, it was pretty active with some interesting stuff for a few months. But it was never anything spectacular like active GW5 was. It was just... a blog. Remember This Week in GW and Freeware Fridays? Even with just a blog there was interesting stuff.

Remember when you could actually scroll down through several different forums? Remember when each one of them was active, and how when you reached the online users section there were at least 25-30 of us online?

Good times.

I've been here since 2003, when I was a stupid little 12-year-old kid, under a different name. But it's time to let go. Bye guys.

You're right, GW doesn't have to stagnate at all if it's becoming something else. And if it is, hey, good for it. It's not like I'm saying this site's doomed to death or something. The topic's called 'Why did this site die?', all I did was answer the very specific question that was asked. I wasn't even the first to answer it in the topic, but for some reason I'm getting a firestorm over it.

By all means GW can keep going on, and can become something else, perhaps something even bigger and better than before. But Gaming World, the site in its current state and as it has always been (Since that's what, you know, we are TALKING ABOUT, not the GW that it is apparently going to be that you all keep alluding to), has died for the simple reason I have gotten at.

It's like everyone's ignoring what the topic's even about. The dude asked why GW, AS IT IS AND WAS not as it magically WILL BE, died.

Why that OFFENDS you guys I have no fucking clue. Mateui and UPRC said the exact same things, decline of gamemaking and aging members yet nobody seems to have an issue.

p.s. gw 4 life and thx for the bday wish atari

Honestly, I blame the complete overhauls of the site and forums. Lord knows I'm pissed that my topics are gone. Again. That and I really don't like anyone here, save a few people like Vanit and UPRC

Also; I believe many of the forums may be restored.

Thank. You.

I am glad that I'm not the only person who acknowledges this as something that may possibly be having a negative effect on GW.

Poor old Kayos, can't you take a hint? I faked my own death, moved to Alaska and didn't leave a forwarding address for a reason...
