Typed up a 48 page, 24,000 word synopsis of Contrast Wing, the idea I have for a fighting game. Finally managed to get it printed out and sealed in an envelope as a sort of 'poor man's copyright'. Once the post office timestamps it and whatnot, we should be pretty good.
[a few comments congratulating him]
only 48 pages? my uber secret concept document just passed 160 pages
And yep, [NAME], only 48 pages, but 95% of that is just story. Gameplay could easily take up another 50 if I went into super detail with it.
This is true game design. 48 pages of story for a fighting game. Everyone take note of this, Contrast Wing is gonna be the next big thing! I... I only wish I could have been involved in it...
edit: let me mention here that the long "game design doc" I've ever written was about 24 pages long, and it was for a grand strategy kinda(think europa universalis or hearts of iron) game based on ww1(essentially) and included rules for controlling individual cities in territories, moving through something like 20 different types of terrain for each type of unit, combat details, a roadmap, and a synopsis of the history of the world it took place in and how the various countries related to eachother and a lot of other stuff. Maybe I just use the wrong font?
edit2: on second though I used almost no whitespace, so maybe these guys are just mashing the enter key between each paragraph to keep it nice and readable?
edit3: just opened the file and it's actually 39 pages long. 24 pages was my unfinished zelda clone idea (it involved cowboys) but still 39 pages to fully develop a detailed simulation of a real world scenario compared to 48 pages for the story of a fighting game.
edit4: i'm just going to use ragnar's posts as design documents from now on
