yeah dude thats so wrong its not funny. you almost sound like you know what you're talking about but ice melting has EVERYTHING to do with particles slamming into one another. Water is much more active than ice, and all that movement of the molecules transfers energy to the ice, speeding up the particles therefore melting it. qed.
Sodium/salt WILL melt ice too, technically, because it reacts so violently and expends a LOT of heat. It's not the chemical reaction though, its the release of energy from the chemical reaction into the ice that melts it, not the chemical reaction itself. You are mixed up a little, mince.
