My favorite local band is doing their final show this week, and my band is going to be playing with them. They're doing a double set, with ours in the middle. They got us our very first show, and now we'll be playing with them on their very last one.

Back when I still drank, there were times when my (then) bassist and I decided that our band practice would consist of going over to hang out and listen to them play. Then we'd get drunk as hell, if hell were something that could actually get ridiculously drunk, partially because there was almost always a bottle or two of Jack Daniels going around during this song. Sometimes we'd all end up just jamming out some cover songs or doing gang vocals for their stuff.

also I had some random childhood flashback about how on Price is Right they spin that fucking huge wheel which is probably not as heavy as it appears on screen and it makes this bleep sound which makes it sound smaller than it is too and I dunno it just tripped me out when I was little

the show seems different now like it feels too much like it's trying to cater to people's preconceived notions of what a Price is Right show is supposed to be, feels more like an homage than the real thing. They've totally jumped the shark. Drew Carey is like that fat nerdy Brady kid they conveniently didn't mention until the 5398505th season. I think the show is actually FILMED WELL now too which is like against everything Price is Right stands for. It's so glossy it's just wrong, it's supposed to have that local car dealer commercial sort of feel

also i don't know if anyone else is watching this but i watched the first two episodes of that new Treme show and liked it! it's about new orleans after hurricane katrina and is done by the guys who made The Wire. it doesn't really have the uh CRIME PROCEDURAL hook to it and is mainly about just regular characters trying to get by so it's not as gripping yet but it's still pretty good. also there's a big focus on music which is pretty cool and introducing me to a lot of people i'd never have heard of. if nothing else i'm kind of surprised there is still apparantly a big active jazz community since i'd kind of assumed jazz had been entirely taken over by boring revivalist guys and kenny g. i'm sorry for being incoherent i'm just tired.

yeah i am watching it. it's a little bit sanctimonious and heavy handed sometimes but i don't know anything about how katrina was handled so it probably has a right to be. it's cool though. the old guy who is fixing up the destroyed bar is already a really interesting character. the actor played lester on the wire but i dunno this character's name yet.

yeah there've been a few kind of cheap shots at HEH... OUTSIDERS, like the volunteers in the second episode were really broad caricatures. yeah i've got your "saints go marching in" you sheeple. it's kind of obnoxious but uh from stuff with john goodman's character i'm guessing new orleans is still kind of scoffed at in america so that's more understandable.

actually i'm not basing that on much so maybe it's unfair but just gonna throw out that this was an actual unironic cartoon run in real newspapers
