I swear I am gonna beat the next person who whinges about the backwards compatibility to death with a Playstation 2.

Just buy a used one for cheap, plug it into your TV. Why on earth you'd sell your PS3 at a great personal loss (considering the amount you initially paid for it) just to get a new one that has backwards compatibility at a greater price? It is so beyond me why people adopt these community-whinges that they read on kotaku or whatever then proceed to whinge about something they haven't really thought much about themselves.

[/passive-aggressive-post]

Actually my laziness extends beyond that.

I have a PS2, I just don't want it to take up more room.  I don't want any more than my PS3 and my Wii being hooked up to my tv.

The only games I even play on PS3 are PS1 games (much like the only Wii games I play were bought from the Virtual Console), so it mainly functions as my dvd/blu-ray player.  So I don't really care about the other losses, as long as they don't take away blu-ray, which would be absolutely ridiculous.  So I'd end up getting a lot more use out of it if I could play Final Fantasy X on it.

I'm sure you could get one with a Wu-Tang paint job for the savings you made from the price drop. That'll make dem bitches swoon.

Yes, but not blu-ray.  Pretty much the defining feature for me.

Hey, do you play it? I'm wondering if it's any good, really. Professional reviews say so, but I'm not entirely trusting of them.

It looks like a lot of fun. I'm probably going to buy it but I haven't decided yet.

Also, Uncharted 2 is coming out on October 13th, finally.

It looks like very boring(hack n slash); not the kind of game you'd think would be fun for long... But it's crazy addictive. I haven't had a reason to sit down and play games lately, but the few time I did, I found myself engrossed by it! It's just a capture the flag game, but it's incredibly smooth to play. You got your engineers who fix and build stuff in the battlefield, or archers, mages, priests, knights etc. Each are fun to play; I especially like being the engineer dude and just avoiding battle to build new routes for my team.
Hopefully they'll find a way to add new gameplay settings, though for now it's funfunfun.

I think I actually prefer the slim's design. The old one seems all super-glossy and plastic-y and sort of cheap in comparison. I dunno, I guess I just like the matte-esque finish. Hell, my laptop's got a matte covering.

I want to get a PS3, and I've got a PS2 so the backwards compatibility thing doesn't really bother me. The loss of other features (UBSs?) kind sucks, though. If they older versions are dropped in price, I might go and pick one of those up. I want Star Trek on Blu-ray, dammit.

But that means I need a job. Go-go work-study?

Someone mentioned you can get USB adaptors for more slots, and the biggest thing for me ATM is still the HD space. I'm tired of deleting all my arcade games. DLC on PS3 is actually worthwhile. I've enjoyed most of the 10 dollar games more than a bunch of those 40 dollar ones.

you can buy a 500gb laptop hard drive for about 90-100 dollars and put it in the PS3 really easily

I think you should wait and buy a bigger capacity PS3. Sony need lemmings to buy more of their product. Nintendo have already proven the staying power of these lemming people and the way they can be guided to buy the same thing several times, just repackaged with bells on. Dietcoke obviously has no idea what he is on about. Peasant.

No PS2 backwards compatability? That sucks, oh well at least they are generous enough to drop the price. Even still, I am fine with my fat PS3.....now all I need is more games(All I have is Resistance 2 and MGS4 but I haven't touched MGS since I got resistance so.....).
