What if charles manson killed your wife, wouldn't you seek comfort in a 13 year old girl too?

PS: I'm not saying it's ok or that I like him but throwing him in the jail is not going to accomplish anything more than an e true hollywood story episode

yeah I agree in a sense.

I think that running away from the law and not getting caught in an excess of lets say 20 years or so is like owing someone an asskicking for just as long. Eventually, its much too late to really matter anymore to both parties and bringing it up again is kind of an assholish thing to do.

he already paid some settlement to the victim and she has said that she doesn't want him prosecuted anymore. don't see why everyone else has to give a shit about someone fucking someone else 30 years ago if the victim herself doesn't even care anymore.

So can a 13 girl have sex with older men as long as she's chill with it and gets paid? like some kind of child hooker.

raping a 13 year old girl is not all he did (lol). he also fled after being convicted of a crime and lived as a fugitive for decades while evading extradition.

what it accomplishes is enforcing the rule of law, even if you are a rich talented director.

Wow that's such a big deal. I can feel the benefits, right now.

I bet the judge will decide it's pointless to throw a 76 years old man in jail for something he did over 30 years ago to someone who doesn't care about it and he'll walk away

yes because living lavishly in europe for 30 years makes up for the fact that you drugged and raped (anally too!) a 13 year old girl while in your 40s.

Hey guys here is a compelling argument:

What about war criminals who were thrown in jail in the 90s/2000s because of things they maybe did sixty years ago? War reparations :fogetshrug: (p.s. I ain't comparing genocide (or any part of it) to raping a 13 year old but neither is the law)

The same thing applies. He committed a crime. Polanski has made millions of dollars, so despite having to live in "SHAME AND EXILE" he still did pretty fucking well for himself I'd say. The only reason he was able to pay her millions (or whatever) was because he is rich as fuck from living like a free bird in Europe.

Also, just because someone chooses not to be mad about it doesn't mean it's not a crime. She has dealt with it and let it go, food for her, the rule of law still applies.

edit: seriously isn't anyone else disturbed that he drugged and raped a 13 year old? Like regular rape is bad enough but he also raped a child for god's sake!

edit2: that is somebody's daughter!

edit3: here's some cashola and a free dvd of Rosemary's Baby

Yes I think he's evil for being the kind of person to drug a girl and put his d*ck inside her pooper without her permission thank you very much!

edit: kaempfer do you lose your sleep over the fact that osama bin laden got away with murdering 3000 people

nobody's saying osama bin laden should be cleared because he wasn't caught. this isn't even like a rape charge that came up from the past, he had been charged and convicted and ran. it's like escaping prison! he's an escaped convict!

Ok so what? It's not like he's a serial rapist molesting one new kid every day. Everyone was doing just fine while he was living as an escaped convict. Now if he goes to jail what happens next? Will it set an example for anyone else?

"This rich director who survived holocaust and had his pregnant wife murdered by a hippie didn't get away with raping a girl 30 years ago. You can't either!!!!!!!" - US department of justice

The only message this sends is that if you rape someone as much as you like and flee just in time us justice will give you several decades of freedom before doing anything

he won't be getting his original sentence, he'll be charged with being a felon for 30 years or whatever. individual circumstance and certainly PERSONAL WEALTH shouldn't be reason for a perversion of justice

i'm not saying what polanski did isn't a crime and that my thoughts on this should apply universally to every other related crime you fucking retards. my whole point was that, given the circumstances, it seems pointless to send him to jail and i don't understand why everyone else is foaming at the mouth to send him away when even the victim herself doesn't give a shit anymore. i don't really give a shit if he does go to jail though. i just think it's pointless and i don't see why anyone else would even care at all.

I agree. The guy is 76 or something, he is clearly not a danger to society, so I highly doubt he will go to jail. But then again, he is an artist and partly french, so I'm pretty sure a couple of Fox News and America's Most Wanted redneck viewers wants him to get the chair or something.

i don't think the victim 'not giving a shit' is an accurate representation of the situation and that's really a horrible mischaracterization

i think she doesn't want a horrible thing that happened to her when she was 13 dragged back into the public light and played over and over on horrible american television news

which is valid in a way obviously too for the 'let's not prosecute him' argument, but as far as i know this case is also about international law, extradition, and catching a fugitive, and if it wasn't roman polanski no one would be defending him at all. let's also remember the victim's rights here are kind of protected since he was already convicted of that crime, and she won't have to testify again or even really be involved if she does not want to be (I hope). furthermore 'reputation dragged through the mud' is not really a defense since it would have been just as much as in the mud if he was in prison, and pretty much this is one of the worst crimes imaginable so.

also i care because it's about rule of law and no one should get away with it, but i care in the same sense that i care about whether or not anyone else should be punished for a crime they committed and were convicted for. CELEBRITY CRIME is not really very high at all on my priority list

That’s right, you have the young gaming with the old(er), white people gaming with black people, men and women, Asian countries gaming with the EU, North Americans gaming with South Americans. Much like world sporting events like the Wolrd Cup, or the Olympics will bring together different nations in friendly competition, (note the recent Asian Cup; Iraq vs. Saudi Arabia, no violence there) we come together. The differences being, we are not divided by our nationalities and we do it 24-7, and on a personal level.

We are a community without borders and without colours, the spirit and diversity of the gaming community is one that should be looked up to, a spirit and diversity other groups should strive toward.

also most of you guys are either really bad at WRITING OPINIONS or you have just all stopped caring. i'm leaning towards both.
