I think the album's ok. Some of the songs are pretty good, the rest are boring as shit. Maybe I was just expecting too much because of you guys with the I CAME xDD etc

i don't have my speakers atm but i listened to the album on loop a couple times and they had a kinda 70's garage band sound. i was expecting a lot more QOTSA since homme is usually so identifiable, and i knew i wouldn't be able to identify DAVE GROHL or JOHN PAUL JONES from their instrument playing.

idk i guess i was hoping for a QOTSA album with awesome bass but what i got was a pretty bland mix . it's not garbage but it really really didn't have me ejaculating.

I think JMickle is right about the Mind Eraser sounding a bit foo fighterish. I can't quite place why. It just IS.

really?  grohl has a distinct kind of style to his drumming actually that i picked up on right away

takes time, intent listening, and understanding of DRUMMING. Some people don't play or understand how its played so drums are all drums to them you know grohl is there but you don't specifically hear him

i dunno his drums sound like drums??? he may play them distinctively but i can only discriminate based on the sound, not the time signature or whatever

so according to your guy's theory, the instrument that somebody is playing determines their sound?   I was talking just about the energy and the style of dave grohl is really distinct.  like you can really pick up on it after listening to songs for the deaf.

also i don't even play the drums but i can tell different drummers and different drumming styles apart.   it's not like its that hard.

So glad they got back together to make TCV. Songs for the Deaf is my fave QOTSA album by a long way although In My Head is my fave track.

Nope. More like the instrument that is being played and the way you percieve music itself determines what you specifically pick out and concentrate on in a song. You can concentrate on any instrument though but if you don't understand how said instrument is being played then you're not likely to be able to decipher whose particular energy or style you're hearing and drums are just drums unless you listen intently.

I'm not saying you have to know how to play either you just have to have a basic understanding (I am hearing a symbol, snare, double bass or this chord or this string, ie) I don't know guitar very well but I can pick out pitches that I'm hearing and can kind of imagine how its being played, if I had a better understanding though I'd def enjoy and get the music alot more.

Of course I could be completely full of shit but thats just my opinion
