I think it was terminator vs robocop on sega, Commander Keen or that one where you have to dig holes to trap the monks in.

What a brilliant start.

I remember this story so well. I was about 5 at the time. Dad came in all excited and he said he had some news. He told my sister that he was going to send her into outer space to collect some rare gems. My sister was obviously very upset about this because at the age of 7 the last thing you want to be told is that you have to leave your home to go on a space adventure. He then produced an old Atari ST E or whatever it was, and booted up a game called Star Goose. It was a top down shooter in which you had to collect gems. It was amazing. I'll never forget that day.

Moon Cresta is the first game I remember playing. I was on Holiday in Jersey and the hotel bar had a cocktail cab of this. It's a pretty cool game.

It had some cool aliens, like the ones in the sreenie. They are joined at first then split when shot. Also, every so often you get to dock with another part of your ship, which inreased your firepower. Like a power up. When your ship was complete you were powerful as heck. Docking wasn't easy, though.

Heres a video of someone playing the snes version on his psp. He sucks though. Considering its one of his fav games he lost a life on level one. The shame.

Super Mario Bros. I was immediately hooked. However, it did take quite some time before I got my own first gaming machine. :(

Either Sonic the Hedgehog 1 or 2 on the Megadrive. There were bits in the Chemical Plant Zone I was too scared to do (because I hated water in Sonic, it'd scare me) so I'd make my Mum do it.

I didn't grow up with consoles, but we've had a computer of some sort for as long as I can remember. We had an old DOS when I 5-6, and played a bunch of educational games on it. Treasure Cove, Treasure Mountain, Reader Rabbit, etc. Also this cool submarine game where you'd swim around a reef and at the end of the levels you'd have to answer a math question. I didn't play a real video game until I went over to a friend's house and played one of the TMNT games for the NES.

That's Operation Neptune.

As for me my first experience with video games is when I was 4 or 5 at a science camp.  They had a computer lab with some PCs and I played Gorillas, a qbasic game where you have to defeat your opponent by launching explosive bananas at them using angles and velocity while compensating for gravity, height, and wind.

Man there are a million version of this game (scorched earth comes to mind but i know there are tons more) but I really love this type of game.  I've never played one that didn't use tanks but yeah this is a great game/type of game and I remember playing one when I was little.

The trick in Gorillas is that you can't use the mouse, you have to punch in your angle and velocity manually.  And yeah, there's lots of versions.  I still remember the PC Speaker sound effect that you'd get when you won and your gorilla would beat its chest after the other gorilla had been reduced to a crater.

The first game I ever played goes farther back than my first memory, but we have it on video tape. The first few games that I loved as a kid that I remember were Super Mario Bros 1, Megaman 2 (my bro preferred 3), Legend of Zelda, Kirby's Adventure, Videomation, and some other games that I can't remember at this time.

Yeah iirc Scorched Earth is the same way, it's all done with numbers.  Now I want to go download it again :(
