This sort of general topic tends to inevitably pop up every now and again, and it just so happens I have my own sordid experiences to discuss this time.

Online Dating.

I'm pretty sure my boss at work is some sort of low-grade internet predator, as by his own admission he has memberships at over 40 different online dating sites.  Free sites, paid sites, whatever - he claims that after bitches started migrating from Myspace to Facebook his options became severely limited and he only acted out of necessity.  I don't know a whole lot about social networking in general, but apparently to really be able to speak to someone on Facebook you have to, you know, know something about them and shit.

So anyway, he starts sending me links to funny/sleazy/scary profiles on some of the sites he now frequents on his perpetual quest for strange poon.  You know, the sort of bitch who is 20-years-old with three kids, green hair and envisions her ideal first date as tripping acid and listening to the Dandy Warhols.  This started a sort of running joke where we would randomly send each other links throughout the day and be all like 'this one looks good for when you happen to be in the mood for a good flogging, heh heh heh  *bookmarks'.

Just coming out of a messy two-year relationship, my curiosity ended up getting the best of me and I made a profile to see who my matches would be.  I've had a couple of lame conversations with photography majors in Nashville, TN and one 19-year-old nursing student who had an annoying knack for calling me at 2:00am until I finally told her I was moving out of the state, but haven't met anyone yet and will probably delete my shit soon as it all seems pretty creepy/pathetic to me at this point.

I've always had this sort of weird thing about approaching women, and if nothing else this has served to give me a bit of virtual practice for later use in practical application.  I'm the sort of guy that has absolutely no issue with introducing myself a lone female, but when it comes to following through with an actual conversation I generally end up falling flat on my face because I'm not well-versed in shit outside of video games, general internets, football and literature.

Have you ever tried an online dating site or randomly met a cool person while dicking around on the internet?  If not, if presented with the opportunity would you follow through and go out on a date with someone you've never actually met?

Also, here's the link to the site we've been foraging through for funny links.

one of keg31's interests is "cell phone"... whoa, she is something only a horrid nightmare could come up with

erm, i met one of my girlfriends through myspace sort of... i didn't know her for real and i got her myspace off of a friend of hers (and mine). we met up and things went awesome and so on

i also met someone off of  omegle and they turned out to be kinda cool, also a girl but she lives in the netherlands so i cant really date her

i dont think people give people who have been on the internet enough creditablity tbh

I get lonely sometimes and consider making a profile on one of these sites but really I should just pull my finger out and go to more society events to meet more people. It's a temptation because I have a lot of work to do all the time and I am totally broke so I can't really afford to go out all the time meeting people like a lot of my friends do.

I decided I am gonna give the whole women thing a break until I am done with my degree because I have had one or two massive heartbreaks in the past two years and it makes sense that I would keep my head screwed on properly and do well academically so that I can fart around with women AFTER I have a degree under my belt.

It's one of those make a plan and stick  to it thinks I think...

That's probably the best idea.  I made the mistake of dating a Presbyterian pastor's daughter back in 2004 and am still kinda recovering from the incident.

I went on a massive drunken binge recently and met a chick in a bar while sipping my Wild Turkey and coke and watching the world series.  We hit it off quite nicely, and she had the courtesy to at least wait until we were slow-dancing to some pop song I've never heard and I was very discreetly sliding my hands around her hips to break the news that she was an ex-military wife with four kids currently in limbo due to legal proceedings.

The drunken binge stayed with me for almost a month after that night, but I never saw her again.

I met my fiancée almost two years ago on Team Fortress 2. On my birthday. Hooray for having no life.

She lives in Texas and I live in the UK. First met her online in Feb 08, then went to visit her in Nov 08, March 09 and May-Aug 09, and she visited me a month ago. It was then that we decided to apply for a fiancée visa so I could move over there.

I'd never make a dating profile, and obviously wasn't playing TF2 looking for dates. I'm still under the impression that when something is supposed to be, it'll be. It'll probably happen sooner if you do actively look tho, I imagine.

But yeah, hooray for e-relationships. They are difficult and frustrating as fuck, and I'd never consider doing it again if somehow this one fails. Too much hassle, too much loneliness and heartache, too much distance.

However, you can't help who you fall for.

Moving from the UK to Texas???  Love is a wonderful, terrible prospect.

That's awesome, though.  A buddy of mine from work met his wife playing Second Life.  She was from the Netherlands but he flew her over here and they actually worked well together in person.  They are now married, just had a kid, and have one of those stupidly content relationships that makes your soul bleed when you see it because you've never been that happy in public before.

I secretly wish that she beats him at night.

i met my girlfriend on okcupid. she's the best thing to happen to me in years and only lives a 40 minute drive away (soon to move closer so she can go to nursing school).  it's really weird, i think that i got a message from her same night i set up my profile..was it.. meant to be?? anyhow we've been dating since june so five months and it's working out amazingly well, we haven't even had a fight yet. i'd like to see her more but the distance isn't especially bad, though i don't have a car so none of the driving ever falls on me.

i don't necessarily recommend online dating, it just seemed to be a freak coincidence that it worked out so well for me. the absolute only reason i did it was because i was one of literally 10 people on my campus for three months because i was on the summer maintenance staff. if you do do it okcupid is fine and you stand a decent chance of meeting at least a few dates if your profile doesn't make you look like a creeper. keep in mind these sites are usually populated by people who can't meet regular folks for a reason.

That’s right, you have the young gaming with the old(er), white people gaming with black people, men and women, Asian countries gaming with the EU, North Americans gaming with South Americans. Much like world sporting events like the Wolrd Cup, or the Olympics will bring together different nations in friendly competition, (note the recent Asian Cup; Iraq vs. Saudi Arabia, no violence there) we come together. The differences being, we are not divided by our nationalities and we do it 24-7, and on a personal level.

We are a community without borders and without colours, the spirit and diversity of the gaming community is one that should be looked up to, a spirit and diversity other groups should strive toward.

The girl I was talking to is currently in school to be a nurse, but I'm beginning to think that she was the female equivalent of an internet stalker.  We didn't talk at length save maybe two or three conversations, and by the second discussion she was already talking about moving in with me and coming to spend the night at my place and such.

Luckily she bought the story about me moving out of the state and took the hint when I went out of my way to buy Left 4 Dead 2 and play it with my roommate all day instead of meeting her for our first date.  At this point I'm confident she has either written me off or is currently watching me from somewhere in the large expanse of forest behind my workplace.  Sadly, it seems that all that talk about her enjoying zombie games and metal music was a clever ruse.

So does anyone have any recommendations for good public places to meet girls?  I have a really cool job where I'm about to be promoted so I'm probably not gonna be setting foot on a campus anytime soon.  I also have this unsettling tendency to gravitate to bars whenever I have free time (lol alcoholic) but I've never had any confidence that I'll find a serious relationship in one.  I don't go to church.  Cafes make me feel like a prick.

I think I need to find a rich friend with a popular sister who throws LAN parties.  Is that so much to ask???

Join groups or a gym or groups and a gym or something.

I don't bother with all that social shit so I don't know, but all I ever hear people say is JOIN GROUPS.

I've never made a profile on one of these things but I think it's dumb that there's a stigma to it for a lot of people. "You met... on the internet???" Those sites let you meet people you'd probably never meet otherwise so it can only be a good thing as far as finding someone you have a lot in common with goes

I would straight up marry a foreign chick on the dot so she could get citizenship if she met the following requirements:

A) was attractive
B) didn't have a bunch of kids (a bunch being more than one or two)
C) signed a prenup
D) fuckbuddies
E) had enough money to atleast support herself (if I had a place and she was trustworthy I'd let herstay rent free) because I heard you can't work for a year when doing this
F) would agree to sign the divorce papers after citizenship

keep that in mind foreign ladies...

are you american? if so, your eventual fiancée can work as long as you get the right visa. the k1 (fiancée visa, move to US once approved, get married within 90 days, file for adjustment of status) allows the alien to work immediately (or at least after a week or two, when a SS number is given).

Oh yeah I forgot.

No I don't do dating sites but I might try it sometime to see what happens but I'd have to think pretty highly of someone in order to go out and meet them based on that.

I've been talking to a few girls on facebook from highschool that I havent seen in forever but they either got kids and are engaged/married or live across the country.

then thats cool jester

maybe I should start a business

Also I forgot, there is an older fillipeno guy on the ship that was trying to hook me up with his 20 year old cousin on friendstar. I told him I didn't have an account and I guess he decided otherwise after I told him I was going to message her with "SO FROM WHAT I HEAR FROM YOUR COUSIN YOU NEED SOME GOOD OL' AMERICAN DICKIN'"

And another real old guy told me he would pay for me to go to the philipians with him and I told him I would if he would hook me up with his grandaughters or sell me a little filipeno girl.

my gf's ex-best friend was actually going to marry this indian guy to get him citizenship, and her $10,000 dollars

they both called it off at the last minute, though. too bad, i would have been interested to see how it went. if people doing it illegally can get away with it, i should have no trouble, right? :|

assuming the reason no one mentioned anything about the op referring to women as bitches is because we all remember the racist posts he made after returning from like a 3 year absence and then how he seemed offended when we didn't realize it was supposed to be a joke. no guys, I'm actually like really liberal remember? I don't even own a cellphone

if anyone starts linking funy profiles I will personally hand you over to ASE

that's pretty cool man I'm happy for you. I'm still not sure if i would do this since I have contact with lots of women even tho most of them are a few years younger than me and immature but I think I'll consider it if nothing happens ugh next semester
