This sort of general topic tends to inevitably pop up every now and again, and it just so happens I have my own sordid experiences to discuss this time.
Online Dating.I'm pretty sure my boss at work is some sort of low-grade internet predator, as by his own admission he has memberships at over 40 different online dating sites. Free sites, paid sites, whatever - he claims that after bitches started migrating from Myspace to Facebook his options became severely limited and he only acted out of necessity. I don't know a whole lot about social networking in general, but apparently to really be able to speak to someone on Facebook you have to, you know,
know something about them and shit.
So anyway, he starts sending me links to funny/sleazy/scary profiles on some of the sites he now frequents on his perpetual quest for strange poon. You know, the sort of bitch who is 20-years-old with three kids, green hair and envisions her ideal first date as tripping acid and listening to the Dandy Warhols. This started a sort of running joke where we would randomly send each other links throughout the day and be all like '
this one looks good for when you happen to be in the mood for a good flogging, heh heh heh *bookmarks'.
Just coming out of a messy two-year relationship, my curiosity ended up getting the best of me and I made a profile to see who my matches would be. I've had a couple of lame conversations with photography majors in Nashville, TN and one 19-year-old nursing student who had an annoying knack for calling me at 2:00am until I finally told her I was moving out of the state, but haven't met anyone yet and will probably delete my shit soon as it all seems pretty creepy/pathetic to me at this point.
I've always had this sort of weird thing about approaching women, and if nothing else this has served to give me a bit of virtual practice for later use in practical application. I'm the sort of guy that has absolutely no issue with introducing myself a lone female, but when it comes to following through with an actual conversation I generally end up falling flat on my face because I'm not well-versed in shit outside of video games, general internets, football and literature.
Have you ever tried an online dating site or randomly met a cool person while dicking around on the internet? If not, if presented with the opportunity would you follow through and go out on a date with someone you've never actually met?
Also, here's
the link to the site we've been foraging through for funny links.
