Ok, everyone in UK will have heard of this and no matter what you think of Rage, this campaign just got fucking awesome.

For those who don't know, a facebook group (http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/group.php?gid=37655682127&ref=ts) has been campaigning for people to buy RATM - Killing in the name this week to over throw Simon Cowell's lasted X Factor triumph from the top spot.

So far Rage is in the lead in download sales, but physical sales of the X factor winner went out yesterday. Simon Cowell has called the campaign 'cynical' and 'stupid'.

Rage are aware of the campaign and made an unforgetable appearance on Radio 5 live haha. Seriously watch it til the end

I have some... controversial opinions on this let me share them. I am just going to copy and paste what I posted on a friend's Facebook so:

Like, I think it is a neat idea to get something PRETTY CRAZY to number one but like Rage isn't really OBSCURE or HEAVY or controversial or anything. I bet there's a guy SNICKERING to himself because he thought of this plan and he probably doesn't know enough about music to be calling the shots on what would be a hilarious Christmas number one. The same sort of people who think RATM are the HEAVIEST MOST BADDEST thing are the same people who think MUSE are THE MOST CREATIVE AND FAR OUT BAND around.

So yeah good idea, awesome that it's working BUT, yeah. Still not impressed

its not about getting some crazy to the top. It's just about knocking off X factor that is basically been 100% certain to get number one for the last 5 years. And what better track to break the 'system' than the anti-establishment song 'killing in the name'. and becuase they are a popular band, it stands a better chance of more people buying it.

yeah this would have been charming if they had picked almost any other song but instead they picked a song that's just going to lead to the same people getting money off of this, money they wouldn't have gotten in the first place since the people doing this wouldn't have bought the original song


so this COULD have been a really nice idea, especially if they had singled out some indie artist or just some other artist that really deserved it but instead this is just GIVING THE PEOPLE YOU HATE MONEY and this is the dumbest thing i've ever heard and all of you should be ashamed of yourselves for participating >​

I read somewhere today (can't find the article now) that Sony that Simon Cowell wont actually make any money from Rage. Whether that's true or not doesn't really matter. This isn't about money, its about the people speaking out saying they dont want X factor as number one.
