I've never seen X Factor and don't have a radio but I could see why people would want to do something like this. It just seems like sort of a waste that they went for Rage Against The Machine and Killing In The Name Of instead of uh anything else at all really. Grassroots stuff is pretty cool especially if it was really an attempt to get something even vaguely policicized on the air but it just seems like such a humourless, cliqueish choice. Fuck you I won't do what you tell me!! It makes it look less like an attack on manufactured pop and more like some boneheaded cliqueish metalhead thing. Heh, you kids wanna hear some real music? *cranks some Limp Bizkit on stereo at backof bus* 'Pop'......feh. Like I suspect it could be either awful pop or good pop or hiphop or whatever occupying the charts and most of these guys would still just VOTE RATM.

I don't doubt the X-Factor songs are awful and saccharine so practically anything would technically be the lesser of two evils here, and maybe it's just that I don't care for rap-metal at all, but man. KILLING IN THE NAME OF

yeah, ratm is such terrible soad garbage and to say they're not just as bad as whatever television based manufactured band is fairly shortsighted!!

i think the average 'rage' song has 5 lines repeated in similar patterns

X-factor is ridiculously big here in the UK and you hear about it every day. or you do when you talk to people, and are around them alot. because everyone watches it, despite having nothing but bad things to say about it. i mean it's pretty easy to say ignore it, and i usually do, but when you work in a cafe with a dozen 20 year old students taking 'The Party Don't Start Till I Walk In' with honours, and the radio is on all day, it is at least a break in the DULL GRINDING GREY NOTHING STATIC to hear rage against the machine talking about how they are so happy the UK is getting down with the revolution and toppling X-factor from the throne this X-Mas season.

also, you've got simon cowell accusing people of being cynical out of this.

at least the name American Idol makes sense, X-factor sounds like a bunch of Rage Against the Machine fan-type guys compete by shooting motorcycles out of a cannon and shooting them mid-air with railguns

NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL X FACTOR

or like some celebrity news type thing, TMZ etc.

Merzbow.

Yeah, I had a discussion with a guy about this and I basically changed my mind except that. Like, I wish it wasn't Rage and was something more terrible. But i still don't care enough about X-Factor to care.

The guy I was talking to said that it was GENUINELY UPSETTING music was being degraded and packaged in such a way. And I was like "hey don't let it worry you it's not like it stops good music existing"

think of big bang theory

ok not mad at but there are definitely a lot of shows the world would be better without.

and I can agree about the music scene but that's something I'd care about when I was like 15, now I guess I'm too jaded. there are a lot of worse things about popular culture than boring music and its ranking

I don't know who this is referring to but since it's gotta be someone in this thread and no one has really done anything to warrant an outburst <<listens to limp bizkit, anathema, tool, rush, alkaline trio, blink 182, system of a down, dream theater, metallica, linkin park christ I could really keep going>>

I love Rage. but I concur with most of you about "Killing in the name of", its probably my least liked song by Rage and I honestly don't understand why its so popular.

I think I've developed a skill for completely missing celebrity goss (gossip). Every so often some friend will talk to me about X or Y public figure and I don't have a fucking clue who that is and they're GOBSMACKED that i've not heard of them. Then I have to go on the defensive for like 15 minutes about WHY I haven't heard of this person whoever he is and then I ask what they do and I'm told they're on a tv show I've never heard of which is apparently also remarkable. im a hermit maybe???

edit: what the fuck does this even have to do with this thread, I don't even know where I'm coming from.

edti: oh yeah it's cause I dunno what the xfactor winner looks like or what his song sounds like which is apparently the most extraordinary thing some friend ever heard
