man, people are so dumb. like when ff13 came out in japan, there were people watching some stupid live stream of some dude playing through the game for like 10-20 hours straight and that's just really sad.
sounds like those people saved a few bucks

FF12 sucked

I personally liked FF12, but that opinion does not make anything about this statement any less true. I think if anyone has any true appreciation for what FF12 had to offer them personally, then they should be willing to accept that the game did indeed suck in a general, overall sense.

I think by openly acknowledging that, it shows my maturity as a gamer and as a human being.

I actually like ff12 a lot, minus at least 90% of the dialog.

yeah that's part of it, I noticed the same thing when I played it a few days ago on our new tv

and yeah the story and most of the dialogue is awful but I assumed that's just because it's a final fantasy. before 12 the last one I played was 10 and that one definitely wasn't any better

this is completely true. there are some potentially enjoyable things about the game, but as a whole it's really impossible to ignore how much of a massive failure the game ultimately was. they tried really hard to strike some balance between it being some quality single player rpg experience and some mmorpg-style grindfest, but failed miserably. i'll give them this much, though: it was really a fucking stupid structural premise for a game to begin with, and it's mildly impressive that the game is as good as it is for having so much going against it.

actually, EDC just says it in an odd way but what he is saying is pretty fucking important to the understanding of ANY ARTS in general pretty much. if you haven't noticed, a lot of people just doesn't seem to understand what is wrong with the band/art/genre/game/ANYTHING they obsess with and it's not really a good/healthy thing! like dietcoke said a part of liking something is being able to see what's not so great about it: just because i like led zeppelin, elliott smith or far cry doesn't mean there isn't anything i couldn't critisize about them even though i like them quite much! elliott smith and jeff buckley are really good but they have their flaws. it's about observing the target thing or phenomena outside the context, if this makes any sense to you. FF12 Had some awesome writing and gameplay but the overall experience didn't make sense. I liked FF12 as well but the game did sucked as you were just repeating what had already been done just like any game, Dante's Inferno is exactly like God of War and God of War is exactly like Devil May Cry but you still enjoy the game for what it is, Balthier I really liked but he wasn't enough to save the game, Vaan and that weren't supposed to be in the game but the guy directing it initially had health problems squareenix took over and fucked it up, Barsh was supposed to be the main character for the series, Ashe was supposed to be dead, etc.

Fuck I'm wasted right now.

I honestly think FF12 is one of the best RPG's on PS2 and also the best Final Fantasy since FF7. It did have its flaws and yeah, the game had some serious issues with its pacing and how the story didn't have enough focus but the good completely outweigh the bad in FF12's case. Even though gambits made battles somewhat automated, FF12's battle system is easily one of the best in the series and it was actually challenging, you had to put some thought into your gambit setups and buffs and debuffs played a much larger role than in previous Final Fantasies which were much more about just going all-out with your offensive attacks and spells. FF12 had an insane amount of interesting and challenging boss because in addition of the mandatory bosses there were a fuckton of marks and other optional bosses and you always had something to do and you always had something to do, some place to explore and if you gained a good understanding of how to take on tough opponents early on in the game and how to deal with the license board the game was just so much more fun than simply doing that one thing you're supposed to do. It reminded me of how much fun FF8 was when you got the ability to play the card game and you could do bunch of neat stuff with it and the junction system if you put the effort into it. And the good thing about FF12 was never too overwhelming but it always had enough to do to keep players who like exploration and optional stuff satisfied. It was just so perfectly balanced. I also think FF12's story is actually pretty good and the cutscenes were directed really, really well, it's just a shame that the story didn't get enough attention to actually make it to be the strong point of the game because the potential was there. It's still a really good game be it objectively or subjectively, and that's what I honestly think.

This is a pretty apt statement aswell. In fact, I doubt there is a single fault with FF12 that wasn't also something you could criticize FF7 for.

Go ahead, try and name one thing FF12 did worse than FF7. I bet you can't do it.
