i love chinese knockoffs, they generally jam as much as they can into the device and it's fantastic, even if the feature is half implemented or really strange. i remember, for quite a bit less than a 40 gig black and white ipod (back in the day), i got this:
http://hdmp4.com/X8just look at the features! usb otg lets you connect and download from any other USB mass storage device. i bought it because i wanted to record lectures and chinese mp3/4 players tend to include this.
i've got another chinese mp4 player that has a 5 megapixel camera that can do movies, sd card support, on chip nes/snes/gameboy/gameboy advance emulation and it cost me some $50.
there's always all sorts of weird things about them though, they tend to be quirky. the cheaper the plastic the less usable the user interface in my experience, and battery life on them tends to be pretty poor.
