Legend of Zelda

Rm2k3 Remake

After some time of working on this, ripping resources, all that easy-to-do nonsense, I've decided that I'm just not feeling the urge to work on this anymore, almost like it was doomed from the start. If you can find a use for anything here, that'd be great. Tragically, not even the first dungeon was completed, though a fair amount of work was put into it and the world map.

Screenshots

Changing equipment will change the graphic of the hero, event graphic, and face graphic, while changing swords will change battle graphic and how much damage is done on field enemies, as is true to the original game.

Slimes : 1 HP
Bats : 1 HP
Skeletons : 3 HP
Pigs : 3 HP

Sword : 1 HP per attack
White Sword : 2 HP per attack
Magic Sword : 3 HP per attack

Attacking has been set to either the action key or the space bar to work around the sticky key problem that many games have, since all others insist on using shift instead.

Many animations have been created for each item picked up, minus rupees, keys, and hearts, as these would normally disappear after picking up.

Those familiar with the original Legend of Zelda (should be everyone) will notice the work put into making each scene as close to the game as possible, minus the fairy fountain, which was admittedly my most hastily made animation.

If at any time you walk through the side of the map, you will know that that was where I stopped working on the world map, so just walk back out of the black to the field.

Also, I have left the testing events in the game, such as the one in the first cave where you obtain the sword. This one can be used to get the white and magic swords, and the blue and red rings. There is also another test event in the shop at map "4-11" where you can obtain rupees. The counting for each map works as if the lowest left map is "1-1", or Row 1 Field 1.

I decided to give this a shot, just to not let some good work go bye without comment---and it is not too bad. Everything is pretty close to the orginal with some minor quips, such as the walking speed; awarked attack anaimation, strange HUD choice, no way to use other items like the bow...but it is a demo, and I don't think you had time to finish all of that yet.

Overall, it was pretty good. But I can what you meant by "It was doomed at the start," because in someways, you were right. I'm pretty sure it would have turned out pretty good, but a lot of people would have gone like, "Er...why play this when I can just play the NES version?"

But good work Confaisus! Too bad you had to drop this, but I think it was for the best.

(How come you didn't have enemies drop things like hearts, rupees, instead of just having text display "Heart?" That seemed a bit strange to me...oh well!)

My generel opinion about the idea to remake Zelda Classic: It shouldn't be a 1 to 1 copy of the original, but it should be way more modern and eppic which means more dialogues, extras, better graphics (Minish Cap or ALttP e.g.)... but IF you wanna remake it 1 to 1 (which makes no sense to me, because that game already exists, so why copying it to another engine?), then you can's mix its graphics up with RTP blobs, RTP systemset and menu or RTP battle animations. Seriously.

almost like it was doomed from the start.

aahahahahhahaha

That’s right, you have the young gaming with the old(er), white people gaming with black people, men and women, Asian countries gaming with the EU, North Americans gaming with South Americans. Much like world sporting events like the Wolrd Cup, or the Olympics will bring together different nations in friendly competition, (note the recent Asian Cup; Iraq vs. Saudi Arabia, no violence there) we come together. The differences being, we are not divided by our nationalities and we do it 24-7, and on a personal level.

We are a community without borders and without colours, the spirit and diversity of the gaming community is one that should be looked up to, a spirit and diversity other groups should strive toward.

Hmm, it works for me when I download it. Maybe you need to check something with your winzip, try downloading the game again, or get a better computer.
