Nobody is exactly sure what this is yet, if it ties in to the next game or if it's a movie. This is just so radically different that I really hope that it's a movie. I've spread this around to a few people who really don't give a damn about movies based on video games, but they admit.. This could actually be pretty decent!

I think that, at the very least, it will be decent and watchable. I'm not expecting any kind of award winner or smash hit, but this could really be decent. It looks like they really want to reinvent the MK franchise, sort of like what they did with Batman Begins/The Dark Knight.

Hopefully this turns out well. It would be cool if there was something Mortal Kombat related that was actually REALLY worth the attention of the masses. We haven't had such a thing in, well, almost twenty years! I'm actually really interested because it looks really dark and gritty, and it "looks" like it's trying to aim well above being a half assed video game movie.

I hope it's a new game and that it ushers in a new golden age of live action FMVs.

It looks cool from this trailer but I have a gut feeling that it's going to end up sucking more than it kicks ass.

Hopefully it will get passed. Problem is the WB have already signed a contract 3rd sequel, getting out of that could be costly. 

I was a little disappointed that they didn't just cast the same actor as Scorpion/Subzero/Reptile and then blatantly recolour him each time.

Actually I don't know why I feel the need to bitch about MORTAL KOMBAT WITH A K of all fucking things but all the recharacterisations kind of grossed me out. Reptile, sounds ridiculous right?? What if we told you he was a harlequin babby serial killer who eats heads :twistedsmile:.............. The games were awful but at least they were absolutely ridiculous and cheesy and this just looks like it's being literalized as humourlessly and unimaginatively as possible. Like they started with the basic premise of "fighting tournament in another dimension populated by characters who are a 12-year-old's idea of cool" and decided hmmm how can we make this seem almost believeable?? I dunno I just think there's this trend(?) of taking all this stuff on the most literal and direct level possible so you get santa claus?? more like paedo claus heh. Alice In Wonderland more like Alice In Stonerland because you just know the guy who wrote that had to be stoned @___@. I'm pretty sure this is Tim Burton's schtick a lot of the time but I don't want to watch enough of his movies to find out. I do not care at all about the Mortal Kombat franchise (as long as it has goro that is ¬¬) I could just pretty easily go without seeing another revamp of a children's game/book/movie that gets credit as DARK/GRITTY/ADULT just because it handles everything without any sense of imagination or humour whatsoever. this doesn't look bad like it's the worst storyline ever but the actual execution of it looks like they're not blatantly trying to piss people off/not caring it's just that's it's MORTAL KOMBAT I mean what can you really hope to get out of it I just don't get why videogame movies have to appear to be in this different universe from shit like MUMMY TOMB OF DRAGON EMPEROR when that concept almost makes mortal kombat look like shakespeare. Maybe it's not so much completely alien atmosphere from 'real' movies it's just that there's no real actors I think. but yeah I hate when movies try to explain away everything too but this in particular seems to be a real blatant attempt to explain shit lol his name is JACKSon wonder how he got the nickname I hate how Shang Tsung is like this Chinese mob boss Chow Yun Fat I wish they made him as Fu Manchu as possible I dunno I never saw the other movies really except for a split second late night on USA I'm not even sure which one. It's not really unique though it's just like lol I'm really hyped on this David Fincher guy I'm going to make a movie that's like Seven + Fight Club... except it's both (and curious tales of benjamins buttons)

I actually think a Twisted Metal movie would work in this style. I mean Twisted Metal the game was pretty much this already I guess it's not a well known enough franchise though! but probably they'll ruin a twisted metal movie like they ruined some of the later games where sweet tooth is this real clown and it will end up like one of the worse batman movies where everyone is this super caricature even though twisted metal was the one game like this the people in the tournament were just these psychos fighting to the death the way they're doing this movie twisted metal is the one franchise that was actually like this. (lol I just realized Mr. Slam from Twisted Metal 2 is probably based of Michael Douglas' character in Falling Down) but I think this alone won't ruin the movie the new Batman movies are basically like they're supervillains but they're not but they kind of are but what's his face Christopher Nolan makes it work because he's semi-decent at make movie

only thing that pisses me off about Mortal Kombat movies is that the good guys all know each other, they're always on the good side and the bad guys make some sort of loose alliance. I would like to see it take the fight club idea all the way and it's just a bunch of anonymous people who have their own reasons to be in the tournament and maybe flash back to give more details about who they are like that Lost show I've been hearing about. Also again I haven't seen the other MK movies but when there was a sense of the 'good guys' in Mortal Kombat I got the impression of like someone's weird version of all-american characters like all the american characters have to either be super-soldiers or some movie star with Johnny Cage's character. The game was american produced right why do they sound like something Capcom would make up. But yeah I wish they took this concept all the way like the good guys are ultra-patriotic and Jax is played by Will Smith who is also american and can kill aliens and post-apocalyptic zombie mutants or goofier-looking cartoon aliens and now he fights like weird chinese demons with too many arms I dunno. In the name of america. And then he's like WELCOME TO EARTHREALM (I didn't know the name offhand honestly I googled it) but yeah the more I think about it I wish they'd really take it all the way like how unbelievable the storyline is. It should be a 12-year old's idea of what America is like and what the orient is like and done in such a way the director obviously doesn't believe it resembles reality at all but sort of done in a TRUTHY way like why does every Russian character on TV still have to be some scary communist who wants crush america. (that guy from Rocky IV or rocky whatever number rocky that was) But yes completely do it in the parallel universe that Street Fighter also exists in that every 90's fighting game existed in like some postmodern meta-narrative of these sorts of things. And all the characters should look like living action figures too.

Or whatever at least try my thing where the characters don't automatically KNOW EACH OTHER just have it like a tournament of different people around the world with their own vested interests which is the hard way to do it instead 'lol all american and chinese people know each other and the american ones all live in the same one city in america and share same occupation like police/military'. I mean when you were really playing Mortal Kombat did you ever get the feel that the good guys were on the same team? games like Final Fight this could work because they were 2-player cooperative and you could be a team with your friend but Street Fighter Mortal Kombat etc. always felt like you were one dude with your own motivations at least in my experience. I don't know why this bugs me so much but it does I guess it's just the same reason having Batman and Superman team up is gay

but yeah it really weirded me out that this guy has obviously seen harlequin baby I thought that was on like the 7th or 8th tier of random internet things with lolcats and nigerian finance ministers on the 1st tier and like the office would mention russian mp3 sites where every song is $0.07 that would be like 2nd or 3rd level of the internet (kind of like circles of hell really) because the office is hip and 'with it'  soon movies will come out and it will be apparent these people know about everything even like that japanese jewish conspiracy guy with the random pictures of bush in a mickey mouse hat and glowing red eyes. all movie directors just lurk around GW all day

I think its cool but I wish they didn't kill johnny cage off like that, he was one of my favs. I hope they bring him back as zombie johnny cage.
