Yes, I finally figured it out.

This is a short RPG Maker VX project I made in just the span of a month. It should be free of major bugs this time. The storyline is related to my novel-in-progress, The Chronos Tome. So, without further ado:

Lironus.exe - 34.39MB

Take it easy, it's only my first ever completed project.

EDIT: Changed some things in the beginning of the game to make it less difficult.

Ill give it a go, though truth be told, I think Im more interested in seeing how this topic plays out than I am in the actual game.

Started it. Didn't get out of the first dungeon before I was bored. Why do you start completely unequipped to be fully equipped by the end of the dungeon? Furthermore, why do you start the game in the middle of an incredibly shitty dungeon? Why is there a healing bed at the beginning of the game? It's not like I'm going to trudge back through random encounters to heal. If the monsters in the dungeon are no longer challenging to the main character, why are they faster than him and can poison him, after a few random encounters I was already running dangerously low on health considering my attacks would miss about 20% of the time, which leads me to believe you didn't even edit the default monsters stats. Probably not the items either. Also, why would you start us in a dungeon that the main character's bored with to begin with? Would it not be better to have at least SOMETHING happen before the first dungeon? You know, give a reason for us to GIVE A SHIT?

I used the monsters' default attack arrays as a base, modifying the ones at the beginning to try to make them easier, such as by giving them "Wait" commands. Now that I think about it I should have given the player more items to start with and removed the status effects for the monsters at the beginning.

I'll be changing that and fixing a few bugs in Version 1.01, which I'll be providing a link to.

Problem is, you fucked up with the first link you gave us. Should have worked on it a bit more, made sure that it wasn't boring before uploading.

Because how are we supposed to want to download your update link if we have know idea if we're going to be wasting our time or not.

Damn you guys are harsh.

Haven't looked at the game, but geez for a first project give the guy a break maybe? Sure there are some serious problems with it, but there's a way to deal with that in a manner that's not in the same vein as ass-wipery.

We're being harsh because he's made multiple threads trying to recruit people and to talk up his past work, which I must report isn't that fantastic.

Sorry Cysma, but there were a ton of really strange design decisions that just tells me that you don't really understand how to make a good map, balance items or characters, or monsters to any such effect that could be possibly intepretted as even mildly fun or interesting by the player.

I don't understand why the ability you get at lvl 2 costs so much mana, or why the mana potions restore 3 times your maximum mana pool, or as Alec pointed out, why there is a bed (???) in the dungeon? Why did you enter a dungeon just to find a bed and leave? Why are there 3 different pickaxes when you've littered chests everywhere such that the player goes looking for them anyway? Why is the player forced to slog through 2 dungeons to get to a tournament that we don't even know why we care about? Why is a warrior who's supposed to be in a tournament only equipped with a hat, tunic and sword? Was the idea to go hunt for equipment before the tournament (what?)? If so, why did we skip that part?

I don't want to you answer why you made these decisions, or even fix them. Go make a new game, make it decent, by yourself, before you try to recruit people again because (a) you're just going to get laughed at otherwise (too late?), and (b) no one will help you anyway. Don't get me wrong, we ALL made games with these flaws on the first try, or even the second or third try (I know I did), but you tried to recruit a dedicated team for a project with only this game under your belt, which you're clearly not qualified to manage or design, and thats why we're being harsh. Oh and happy birthday.

I just realized, there's no screen shots in this topic, or even the one he started in the Full Games sub forum.

The MP costs are to be proportional to the damage output, which gets really high at later levels. As for the mana potions, they would be a ripoff at the shops if they restored less MP, and your max MP pool increases exponentially.

or as Alec pointed out, why there is a bed (???) in the dungeon? Why did you enter a dungeon just to find a bed and leave?
Barus made it. He was camping out in the cave for his training.

The pickaxes are to get out of the cave.

It's part of the exposition. Would you rather have me dump the entire story on you at once?

He was going to use the money he earned from killing monsters to buy better equipment, yes. And I was originally going to have you pick up his starting equipment yourself in the game.

And if I acted like an ass earlier, I'm sorry. I guess I sometimes get too frustrated too easily.

I'm planning on making another project now. Though I have a few questions.

Exposition? How about giving us a little story, to at least tell us why the fuck we're in a cave in the first place.

Movies with too much exposition don't do well, and most games don't either. A little exposition is okay, but you need to give us a reason to give a fuck about what we're doing in the game.

Is it possible to use the ^ operator in the RPG Maker VX scripts? Can you give monsters a "level" stat, and have it affect their other stats? Can a character's level be used in battle calculations?

I answered your question already in the Coding forum.

Seriously, give up game making.
