Does anyone know where I can find RPG tsukuru 2003? The reason being I need to do a Japanese translation of my game (I'm a Japanese major) which I want to show Square Enix and Sony Computer Entertainment that I can do game localization when I attend the Boston Career Forum in October.

Uh, why can't you just rewrite the text and commands in Japanese in the English maker version, unless there's (understandable) concern about it being a pirate program?? I'm sure otherwise you'll be able to track down copies of the program on the "net, or go to Enterbrain's site and buy one.

I don't understand why after all these years, people still think they can find help in GW. In case you haven't figured it out by now Nick, no one cares in GW. Least of all about rpgmaker. They just log on here to flame each other and generally act like idiots.

If I knew how to help you, I would.

None of this changes the fact that this has been against the rules since the dawn of time.

He didn't say "I want it for free". He asked where he could find it.

That's a legitimate question, because RPGツクール2003 isn't available for purchase on tkool.jp anymore (although its removal was never announced by Enterbrain - it was just gone one day).

Maybe, you'll be able to get a copy at Amazon if you are lucky and find some dealer offering used software, but your chances aren't that good, I think.

he didn't ask where he could buy it, and it's clear everyone would assume that he wants to download it if he didn't specify.  plus, it's pretty clear he'd need it right away to translate a game for a conference that's only a couple of weeks away.

btw i really doubt square/sony is gonna want to see your rpgmaker game sorry bub.  especially because if anything you'd be better off showing them you can translate something that wasn't written by you.  it's easy to write your own words in another language, but it's harder with someone else's since you have to understand what THEY mean.  you already know what YOU mean.

Yeah you're right. I just want to have something to show.
The thing about translating it is just in case they don't know English
it might be easier for them.
I already know the rules of not asking for links to downloads,
but honestly by now I kind of assumed Rm2k3 is freeware,
as it seems that Enterbrain has abandoned it in favor of
XP, VX, and Action Game Maker.

I've been using this site for a while, but yeah now I'm thinking of moving on to http://rpgmaker.net/
Nobody cares about rm2003 games anymore.
Honestly I like them a lot better. I really don't like the graphics of XP or VX.
I know graphics don't make a game, but the very fact that every game looks
the same even if there are custom graphics, and the high resolution makes
it look worse IMO.
I love the retro look of Rm2k3.
I just love the program because I've used it for more than 7 years and
can do almost anything with it.

I never said they would. It's not like I want to pitch it that's ridiculous. What I want is to show them SOMETHING.
Besides, I would get sued so far up my ass for all the Final Fantasy characters and music in the game
its ridiculous.

By the way, I can't remember what it was called, but there was a game made in AGS that had two screens, the top with English text and the bottom with Japanese. I thought that was really interesting.

wait, i don't get this at all.

you want a job doing localization, so first of all you should probably be translating something from japanese to english and not the other way around (since the companies you seem to be interested aren't english-speaking ones)

but now you're saying that you're just translating it so that they can see your game.  which has nothing to do with localization, it has to do with YOUR GAME.  yet your game is an rm2k game full of FF characters.

just what exactly are you trying to prove to them?  if you want to do localization, show them you can translate something from japanese to english and have it come out well.  if you want to show them your gamemaking skills, then don't show them something full of THEIR characters made in a program that simplifies the process in a way that won't really benefit you in a job with them.  i'm not trying to belittle you but honestly if i were a scout or w/e for a company you would not be making a very good impression showing me your final fantasy rpgmaker game.  you've got a few weeks, why not try to find a much better way of presenting yourself so that you don't seem like an annoying kid who wants to get into the WONDERFUL WORLD OF VIDGAMES

there's tons of people out there interested in the companies you're interested in and the same jobs as well.  you're going to have to do something far cleaner than this to score that job.

edit: also looking at the website for this career forum, if you're interested in sony you'd better be speaking japanese at the same level as a japanese native, because that's all they want.  square just requires business level though.

Yeah you're right, I mean the reason I just want to show them is that I have some creativity. I don't even know what exactly they're looking for for these positions. I still need to apply and stuff online though.

My game isn't "Full" of characters it just uses SOME characters from square games as a joke, and some music of theirs. Most of the resources I made myself.

Yeah I've translated a couple songs to English, I don't know if that would count though.

Well I think I would be judged differently if they want americans/fluent english speakers because honestly, if they want to hire new graduates like many of these companies do, I don't think the Japanese students are fluent in English, except for a couple of my friends. My Japanese isn't fluent but I'm going to apply anyway. The interviews are in Japanese so I'd think they'd be impressed by my effort at the very least. Conversational is really basic shit.
Business is the ability to use it in an office setting and everyday use. I'd say my Japanese is about business level but I'm just going to say it's fluent, it's about as fluent as a white guy can get without living in Japan, except if you count my friend and roommate who's amazing at Japanese.  (I've only logged about 1 year and 3 months in japan for study abroad but I think if I was there for two more years I would get a lot better.)  I might as well try because you never know what could happen, and besides I already bought my plane ticket to Boston.

I'm not saying you shouldn't try, btw, you definitely should.  I just don't think you should be doing it by showing them your rpgmaker game.  Think more professionally.

First of all, if you're interested in doing localization, then that should be your focus.  Showing them your game doesn't really say "I want to do localization", it says "I want to make games."

Second, I can only assume that the games you're talking about are the ones in your sig.  If that's the case, then you'd be showing them a game full of mismatched graphics and trees shaped like butts.  Is this really something that says "please give me a job"?  Just going by the screenshots, you also have lines about harvesting body parts from fetuses, Jew jokes, jokes like this, typo (HUGE no-no when you're trying to prove you're fluent in a language and you can't even spell things in your own).  Now please, tell me why a businessman from Square would look at this and offer you a job?  I'm not telling you that you shouldn't make games like this and have fun with it, do what you want.  What I'm telling you is not to use this to represent yourself in a business setting.  There'd be nothing wrong with showing them your indie games if they were more like something you'd see from, say, cactus.  Not to say that they'd have to be AS GOOD because he's a pretty damn high standard for a beginner.  What I'm saying is that it'd be something very presentable in a professional sense.  On top of that, even he probably wouldn't go in and say "Hello my name is cactus and here is my game SPACE FUCK".

Even if you're presenting some entirely different game that you haven't shown anyone on GW (or at least don't link to in your sig), think about it--do you really have time to show someone a game?  You aren't going to be the only one there.  You need to think in terms of time.  Find something much more direct to show them (this is why I recommended translating something else).  You said you weren't trying to pitch your game to them--but are THEY going to know that if you say you're interested in translating yet instead you show them a game you made?

The more I read about this the more it becomes abundantly clear that not only do you need to be pretty impressive at Japanese, but also you'd better have a solid resume because that's the only thing they're going to be seeing.
