TL;DR but really want to know what you're talking about!

it's mostly morbid stuff but it's all observational shit about how people always put stuff off until the last minute or will be standing at the edge of a tall cliff and think about jumping off just because you could, or how to commit the perfect crime. And then he actually does commit the perfect murder because it's Edgar Allan Poe but I like all the examples at the beginning

yeah that's awesome

I liked Space Funeral, but forgot to save and died cause I let that wizard drink all my blood. That was frustrating, I started again but I still haven't finished it yet

lol I looked up Girl with the Dragon Tattoo to find out wtf it is. It might be good but at a glance it sounds like Dollhouse guy wrote it. I thought it'd be some asiafag thing but it's not I guess

for what its worth i think space funeral only starts getting good at the blood cavern and beyond so dont let the opening bits put you off too much! thats just an imo though

poor kojima, nobody around him appreciates tron as much as he does

ahahah "american otaku taste" is pretty good. i like the idea that hideo kojima spends his time in the states pining for someone to freak out about john carpenter synth sounds with. i've actually been thinking lately that i probably feel the same way about america as anime fans feel about japan, in terms of having this kind of ridiculous and seductive fantasy conception of it developed from random pieces of pop culture which have been stripped of their original contexts. idk if i'd ever want to go there because i have paranoid fantasies about stepping off the plane only to be immediately shot 37 times by security guards and dying in the gutter from improper medical insurance but i still kind of carry around a romantic fantasy version composed of album covers and song lyrics and old movies and stuff. like the cover to the first New York Dolls album where it's five glam transvestites on a couch and the title written in neon lipstick and song titles like TRASH and FRANKENSTEIN and jesus christ who wouldnt find that more appealing than a bunch of smelly ole europeans writing sonnets about fjords.

GHOST BITCH this is how i imagine the whole country looking please dont ruin my dreams

edit: in retrospect this is probably the best thing about kojimas games too in terms of an entire worldview drawn from 80s action films

there's nothing going on here, ireland probably has better transvestites. but I think a similar reason is why so many people in english-speaking europe love the wire, plus the awful NOBLE SAVAGE characters which have always given yall a boner

I been to a couple of sprawling city/defunct urban environment kind of places I guess thats what you're talking about? Baltimore is pretty nice in some places if I remember correctly but then you got the older areas and the rundown parts of the city I wouldn't be walking around in at night alone. I just drove through all that stuff a couple times though I only really got around in the country (south maryland I think?) and the capitol and the capitol is a real nice area but right outside there are some rough places.

New Orleans is in the same kind of way. But its generally more run down and I think its got more personality and color than Baltimore.

But I don't think we have a whole bunch of really historic urban cities like you're thinking. I'm pretty sure the US is much more rural and small town, big town, city here and there. I've never been to the midwest I'd really like to go there, I want to go on a trip through the desert in Arizona sometime. I want to ride through the valleys and desert and shit and see some fuckin' wilderness if there is any anymore.

Theres some wilderness around here but its either beach or woodland and they been cutting alot of woodland away and are putting more shit on the beaches (like my condo).

Idk I think the Wire was pretty good at avoiding the whole NAIVE WISDOM thing apart from some bits at the start and the very end, in the sense of what jamie talked about a while back about those simple offhand comments which are actually very ~deep and meaningful~ except the characters saying the lines obviously don't mean it as such so its left to white college kids to go ah yes how inadvertantly powerful..... this earthy wisdom of creatures who are truely "in touch" with the "real world" *writes a term paper on robert johnson lyrics* *drives past crying native american help im in the wrong reference how do i get ou*

It probably does involve a lot of that gritty streetlevel raymond chandler mean streets stuff though but I think less in the sense of noble savages than a fantasy world completely built from the intersection of all these exaggerated cartoonish representations. Anything to do with The American Dream sorta stuff had obviously become a ridiculous caricature long before I was born, but I think what I'm saying has to do with the sense of finding all those caricatures and parodies without ever seeing the originals, so you're left with a kind of blank which you mentally fill in as being the real thing. Like seeing parodies of NIGHTHAWKS in a dozen places without knowing the original and trying to figure out how to connect them. I remember seeing the cartoons in the Link To The Past manual as a kid like http://zs.ffshrine.org/album/link-to-the-past/inst-us/z3manual-15-16.jpg and assuming from the art style that they were actually taken from some tv show and that there was some kind of "canonical zelda" which the other things were derived from. I guass I'm looking for..... the canonical america *camera pans over skyline to underline the accidental resonance of these innocent words* but really imagine trying to draw a picture of a country you've never lived in based on Beach Boys songs and saturday morning cartoons. I think I still enjoy this on some level!

I made 400$ out of my car accident, it def wasn't worth it but its a pleasant surprise. Got my rear end fixed but the body shop guy said the dealership gave him a diff model rear bumper so he's gonna order a new one. It looks good though except for the bumper being a little off.
