Also the thing about net neutrality is that telco companies have basically been overselling their bandwidth for years. We've all collectively been paying through the nose for something that we hardly used. Now that the world is starting to wake up to the fact that file sharing exists at all (it was really a niche until about the mid 2000s; also think about stuff like video streaming which only around that time became viable for most people) the companies responsible for getting the data to our houses are realizing that if this continues their business will become a lot less lucrative. So they've taken it upon themselves to support things like 1) anti-net neutrality legislation, 2) file sharing legislation, and 3) throttling. While gathering support from congressmen and senators by donating to them.

This is a clear "us vs them" situation when you get down to it. The thing about people like your dad(ie modern day libertarians) is they adhere to their philosophy of no government control so strongly they seem to have forgotten that we too have the right to fight for our cause and that the government can be a great tool for doing so.

Youtube comment:

I am? not saying I am proud of this vid and some Chinese do need to learn how to drive , but what really pissed me off is this vid was uploaded by nipos to purposedly impair CHina's image. Both sides are true! Chinese are bad drivers but Nipos are leftover evils from WWII who can not just stand China's rising and seek every opportunity to harm and isolate CHinese by using real or articially made proof!!!

HAHA...

EDIT: also, I sent a response to my dad earlier. It was a link to the definition of the "slippery slope" fallacy. (This was before you're responses.)

EDIT: Also, NVM, that youtube comment is tame in comparison to some more if you dig a bit deeper.

I don't know any libertarians anymore (the big one moved to australia over a year ago so he's probably part of whatever niche group exists over there) but all my old friends started loving guns somewhere along the line and they actually say stuff like "allowing students to carry firearms on campus would eliminate college shootings--think about it"

and yeah you're not supposed to actually use slippery slope as your argument. huh, you support net neutrality? the strawman of your argument is pathetic, and here's a false dichotomy to prove it:

this was an accidental post that I can't delete so I'll just post this:

Death and ensuing scandal

The original Wiarton Willie lived to the advanced age of 22, and was found dead only two days before Groundhog Day in 1999. The organizers were unable to find a replacement, and instead marked Groundhog Day by revealing "Willie" in a coffin. He had been dressed in a tuxedo, had coins over his eyes, and a carrot between his paws. A scandal ensued when it became known that the real Willie had in fact decomposed, and the body in the coffin was that of an older, stuffed groundhog. The Associated Press was obliged to issue a retraction on its wires.[5]

I found a small bit of a .22 revolver. I took it with me, now I'm afraid I stole evidence from a crime scene and that if I keep it the police will never catch the perpetrator or they'll arrest me instead

The advantage of this new SMF is that you can now browse when you are shitting. You could before, just not with such speed and efficiency that a reduced mobile layout brings.

Also inri - never change amigo.

I saw the new Black Eyed Peas album it has Mother 3 Lucas and Claus graphics (or more likely Pokemon style or something) but the color palette is reminiscent of Mother 3 too. Or possibly Cave Story either would be scary if some pop album randomly referenced these things

I thought it was original and different.
Before the visualization of the comic novel and me (and vice versa of course), "not as I hate the original!" I did not like it ... stubborn.
Now, I think I see an interesting perspective and a different interpretation, and was also a parallel world to enjoy.

If the interent is free now[as in neutral], then why are they trying to fix it? They are playing with words, but if you read the law they are trying to pass you will see it is not to free the internet, they want to control it.

EDIT: Also I've already responded to this one as well. Stating I'm 100% for the concept of Net Neutrality. Bills are being proposed now because it's only just recently become an issue.

I just wanted to see if you guys have anything else to add.

You should tell him he has the wrong idea about who initiated this. Basically the internet has always adhered to the principles of net neutrality from day one since that's what was enshrined in the telecommunications law (remember: the internet was originally just a service built upon regular telephone lines). The "they" who are trying to "fix it" is not the government, it's the telco companies who believe the law should change. So if the government has its way, rather than something happening, nothing will happen, since all they're really planning on doing is reaffirming the old model that has served us so well.

He should also know that most of the internet's "founding fathers" and other important computer scientists support net neutrality, including Tim Berners-Lee, Vint Cerf and David Reed.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QMEf3FfuoI Vint Cerf on net neutrality and how the telco's suggestions will stifle businesses.
