was listening to Castlevania III.nsf just to see if I even liked it anymore, some of the tracks are so bizarre and bleak, and some of the timbres are so odd. Jesus Christ I think my brother used to play the password screen music on repeat to slowly drive me insane. I don't know how much of it is inherent oddness or just memory imprinting. God the boss theme is so hectic it probably encourages you to get it over with as soon as possible. The character join screen music is pretty haunting. But yeah combine this with the weird early Castlevania architecture that is so removed from whatever it's actually supposed to be, some of the levels really /feel/ like you're so hopelessly deep in a strange and dangerous place

but yeah I really wish videogames were still so motivated by/gamers felt rewarded by being exposed to these strange experiences instead of just 'pretty' ones

you can move this to the catamites topic if you want

Mexican Coke = best cola (that I've ever had)

mexican coke is good as an entry-level sugar cola, and well-suited for a night out at the pizza parlor quaffing coke after coke, but there are higher quality colas out there for those who desire a more refined flavor. from here I suggest trying out Boylan's cane sugar cola, and once you're ready, moving on to top-tier selections such as Fentiman's Curiosity Cola and Double Cola.

Turns out my brother is eligible for the college course he applied to!! He is trying to celebrate w/ liquor and videogames and loud music but he doesn't own any CDs apart from Greenday ones he bought when he was 12 so he had to borrow my Stop Making Sense soundtrack.... it was pretty sad.... the perils of the MP3 age....

Is Castlevania III the one where you have to pray by a lakeside for five minutes before you can proceed because I really liked the idea of this otherwise serious game forcing you to complete this really weird and arbitrary ritual.

what is SW's recent obsession with punks anyway

and thecatamites I think you're confusing it with the opening sequence where you're praying by this fountain or something

I unfortunately don't know if any of these are available with-in walking distance (no car) or even available in my area at all. but I'll at least check around.

The only other cane-sugar drink I've had is Jones Cola, and its pretty good. but I feel Mexican Coke is better.

I was just trying to sound like a beer/wine dingbat, but those are all good colas including Mexican coke. I think Boylan should be available in any grocery store that has a "natural aisle". Jones has some ok sodas, but it's mostly their novelty flavors like green apple that are good. their root beer is atrocious

the other two are rare. I only ever saw Double Cola online, and Fentimans in a specialty store. Fentimans is actually fermented like an alcoholic beverage for its carbonation, like some other sodas I've tried, but it actually tastes good too.

I don't think it's a SW obsession so much as a me obsession! I got a book called "Destroy All Movies" a while back which describes every appearance of a punk in a film from 1975-1999. It basically amounts to being a catalogue of awful hollywood and b-movie schlock that sank immediately but which happened to contain 5 frames of a dude with pink hair and a Fear shirt in the background. But there's a lot of cool stuff in there too... I've really got to track down Mexican punksploitation action film "Intrepidos Punks" because holy shit

There's also like a dozen entries from the apparantly thriving Italian postapocalypse movie scene...

Yeah I sort of figured. but I actually do really love colas.

Also correcting myself, I said Jones was the only other cane sugar DRINK I've had. I should have said only other COLA. I've had Jones Green Apple and the Blue Lemon-berry. Which are also pretty good.

Hey guys; reset my password. I'm finally getting around to getting a new compy so I should be back in the swing of things soon.

I think it was just standing in the same spot for no reason though, not praying or anything

i kinda feel cheated. i'm vacationing on the coast of maryland at the moment and it wasn't more than there or four light shakes here. seems that everyone else got the full earthquake experience but the fat, bloated tourists out here who couldn't put down the EIGHT POUND CHUNK OF UNCOOKED COW MEAT and bother observing that the floor was shaking not under the weight of their gargantuan mass.

also not looking forward to going home and cleaning up all the shit that fell over.

I was on the top floor of the old library building when it happened. it started out with a tiny shake, and I thought it was because of the sporty dumbo next to me who was jiggling his leg, but then the building started to sway and the bookcases rocked back and forth. I was actually afraid the building would collapse because it's really a piece of shit, but in hindsight it was kind of cool. I don't think I ever felt an earthshake before.

edit: I haven't heard anything about it yet since I just got back from classes, so sorry if I'm a dingbat for describing it as cool

i was also in a library when it happened, away in a quiet corner of the asian language reading room, drinking coffee and reading

the whole building started shaking, and books fell off the stacks.  heart beating like crazy and the realization that i had no idea what i should be doing.  then it stopped and i couldn't help laughing.  it was neat.
