IDK american nationalism is pretty peculiar because it's more of an identification with an ideology than some kind of volk or unified culture

that's not cynicism, it's a fact! by definition america's not a nation, it's a country. that's what it was founded upon: anyone can be american, not anyone can be dutch. kurdistan is a nation but not a country. using your example, israel is a nation, palestine is a nation, one's a country the other isn't. that's why "american nationalism", if it's really ok to call it that, is always tied to some other exclusive ideology. see: country music
