I think you're on to something earl with the whole money thing. IDK since like the 80's or so people have been encouraged to EAT EAT EAT everywhere we go. There's food everywhere! People are always just snackin' and drinking sodas whenever and wherever. I don't think it's a coincidence that obesity has skyrocketed since then
that too, but I was thinking more about the obsession with weight/losing weight/"looking good" and all the products, diet programs and services associated with that. there's tons of money in that market. and it's all pounded into our heads so much we don't realize how absurd it is. it really seems like idk I'll call it a manufactured market, to me. also consider how healthier food is more expensive and cheap food is often filled with garbage you shouldn't be eating and will end up making you obese or giving you acne (another big market) or creating other mental and physical health problems. so you take a vitamin, buy some combination oily/dry skin moisturizer and a bottle of conditioner for your brittle hair before stopping at the drug store to pick up some zicam, cialis, lipitor, and your kid's adderall
and I guess the icing on the cake is how the cheap food, like fast food or hostess snak paks or whatever, is also often designed to get you in & out, so you can get back to browsin the market increase your purchasing power tenfold. aaaa don't even think about the oil/automotive industries here
what worries me about the rise of "healthy alternatives" that are also quick and convenient is that it's a sign all this junk has become so ingrained into modern society that we've accepted it as normal and are now moving past it, and there's no going back. we depend on fast food, bottled water, snack machines; they're part of life, we need them to leave the office at this time get to the client's house by noon and then back to office etc
