well i mean it probably depends on what you're getting.  like it's going to be more expensive to buy the stuff for a salad than buy some bread and processed lunch meat or a frozen dinner.  and any of those options are probably going to be more expensive than just taking two minutes to go to mcdonalds.
Well, it's perfectly reasonable not to want to eat a salad for lunch every day. But I'm sure that if you buy some simple vegetables and pasta you could make a bunch of really great dinners at a lower price than when you would go to McDon't on each of those days. Even if you buy them from the store rather than a market.

Vegetables are cheap no matter how you look at it. I refuse to believe that buying vegetables is somehow more expensive than buying ready made or processed food unless you're buying CANS OF SPAM or something.

no they're not cheap no matter how you look at it. fresh vegetables (especially organic) are really, really expensive in the U.S.A.

Fuck salad

I think it takes less energy to cook a lot of food in bulk than it takes to cook small portions

What is with that organic bull shit

If you only buy "organic" because you feel sorry for the exploited third world farmers, well if you don't buy from them they'll starve and die

I also demand proof that raw ingredients are that much expensive than industrial food in US

That's kind of strange and worrying to me. I mean I suppose it depends on which vegetable you're buying but let's take french fries as an example. This (image) would cost you, say, 1 EUR around here. But for 1 EUR I could also buy one and a half kilos worth of potatoes, even from the supermarket. And sure, you still need the frying oil, but even then it's cheaper if you consider the volume.

The same goes for canned pasta sauce. If you buy 1 EUR worth of tomatoes, celery, onions and carrot I'm sure you could make a way better sauce which, considering the volume, is cheaper.

I think you're not taking into consideration the energy/labour costs

Also post a sauce recipe

it all depends. A lot of the fresh veggies I get are pretty reasonable but there's times where you'll see an outrageous price like 1 dollar for a cucumber or something. Organic produce in supermarkets is even worse, it's only really worth buying organic at places like co-ops or farmers markets.

That's what my wife and I do. We'll make huge pots of something like a curry chicken stew, soup, chili, or pasties, portion it out into containers, and then freeze em'. It's great cuz there's always a selection of pretty healthy food to eat that's easy to cook up when we're too lazy or busy to prepare dinner.

Also post a sauce recipe
1. cut onions, celery, carrot and tomatoes.
2. onions, celery and carrot in oil for a few minutes. add tomatoes only when they've softened up and become glazy. if you use butter, use a lower temperature and some more time.
3. add tomatoes. now add some salt, pepper, perhaps some vegetable stock, smoked paprika powder, oregano and whatever else you like.

This is the basis that's doable in literally just 5 minutes, not counting the waiting time (let it simmer).

whenever I make rice I'm eating rice for the next 5 days

Dada, you guys probably have loads of taxes on fast food/junk food over there, if not on the customer then on the companies. here, it's essentially like this: the worse the quality of the food, the cheaper it is and vice versa. that's a big reason why the poor here have such an obesity problem, not to mention the rest of their health problems. they are essentially always dehydrated and malnourished even if they drink a lot and eat plenty. I'm not gonna post the free market reason I've done that enough itt

still you can get like 5 chiquita or dole bananas for under a dollar

Also post a sauce recipe
cayenne/red chili powder, vinegar

Farmers markets? Over here they are wayyy more expensive than supermarket prices, and in my experience more likely to have fruit/veg that's gone off

yeah kawour it depends. one near my house has pretty good food for around the same price as the supermarket, sometimes cheaper sometimes more expensive. the other one a little farther away has lots of cheap, huge, obviously GMO foods but no one is trendy/up to date there so they don't care

I haven't price-checked in the city, but from what I've seen a lot of the stuff in those farmers markets is more expensive than it is in the supermarkets out here. the stuff in there is always organic and of good quality because the urban sludge-people demand it

idk it could just be a regional thing but all the farmers markets and co-ops slingin' local veg around here are generally priced the same or lower than the supermarkets. If they're priced higher you can just tell the person at the stand that the grocery store is selling it for cheaper and if you know the price they'll match it cuz they just want to sell everything before it goes bad.

Try going to farmers markets like 30 min. before they're set to close because I have a friend that does that all the time and they make their prices lower trying to get rid of all of their stuff.

Nah don't because all the stuff they sell at the end of the day is terrible.

But yeah the earlier you go, the better the products will be, generally speaking.

I'm 5'6 and weigh about 12 1/2 stone, about 74-78kg our weighing scales arn't very acurate, and i can't see the numbers very well; but i am loosing weight and still loosing it. Thing is i can't belive i ever gained it, i was a thin kid and didn't play many computer games, it wasn't till i went to secondary school did i really gain weight and even then it wasn't a huge amount.
I'ts a bit of a paradox since i wonder how people (myself especially) can let themselves go and yet at the same time i know why i did.
