I was thinkin about Illbleed the other day ('tis the season) and found this trailer for it. I bet a lot of people round here love illbleed, but the thing that surprises me about the trailer is that it practically hides the fact that the game's a comedy-horror.  I'm guessing the marketing people that got ahold of the game just didn't get the offbeat humor, or maybe that they really wanted to jump on the resident evil survival horror bandwagon

Non Human (action 52) fangame, with sprites and music ripped from the original. random videogame signifiers are pasted haphazardly onto it, like crosshairs and keys and signs that say DANGER next to bottomless pits. it's less abstract than the original but it's still kind of got the bizarro world feel about it, like, you know what the level is supposed to be now - "Palace" - but in the same hollow way (what palace, whose palace, what am i doing in the palace).

when I see elaborate early video game map-systems like that, I wonder how many 8 bit era pixel maps had hand-drawn concept art.  I bet a lot of the sketches are probably lost to the sands of time, but it'd be really neat if a body of them lasted long enough for people to archive and curate.  things like those hand-drawn spite sheet in denzquix's thread, those are really amazing to me because it makes me think of when I was a little kid (like 7-9), I used to draw little fake video games on blank sheets of paper, like these elaborate platformer setups that involved a lot of basements and sub-basements and spikes and lava pits.

yes!! i too'd be very interested in seeing more scraps of densely scrawled maps and tilesheets. i had a phase in middle school where all i drew was outdoor maps set in meadows/weird videogamey lumpy hills with cross-sections of caves with collectible stars hidden inside.
